I've finally got a hackintosh setup in my music room.

I've finally got a hackintosh setup in my music room. Recently I've been using my Tau with EigenD intermittently on Windows 7 but haven't had much time so let my subscription lapse. What's my quickest route to a decent EigenD setup on OSX? Can I build this all from source yet or do I need to get the subscription? While we're on the subject, what is the status of Eigenharp/Eigenlabs these days? Is the brave new world working out? I see the price has gone up recently but I don't see much about it in the news.

Late May #eigenchallenge2014 entry. A rendition of "We have all the time in the world" on the Pico.

Late May #eigenchallenge2014  entry.  A rendition of "We have all the time in the world" on the Pico.   Somewhat imperfect (!) musically, but possibly of interest technically:  there are a lot of accidentals in the second half, and the Pico doesn't have enough keys to play this in chromatic mode. So, I've used the both the 'roll' and 'yaw' of the keys to send pitch-bend messages, but with different gains.  This means I can pull/push the key all the way to one side to get a full semitone of pitch-bend for the accidentals, but still 'wobble' it in the more natural direction for vibrato.  As you can hear, the technique still needs some practise, but it shows promise I think!  (The instrument is Sample Modelling's Tenor sax again) https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/we-have-all-the-time-in-the-world

I'm afraid I won't be delivering an #eigenchallenge2014 piece this month.

I'm afraid I won't be delivering an #eigenchallenge2014 piece this month. I didn't get to put in the hours required and when I played what little I had the feedback was "it's a bit of a dirge". Which, really, was true. So I'm binning it and will start again on something else for June. This note is to say I've not left the challenge behind.

May is nearly gone, so here is my Spring offering:

May is nearly gone, so here is my Spring offering: I know, I said I wasn't going to do another piano piece, and it wasn't going to be*... but then Pianoteq 5 was released, so I couldn't help myself. This time to be a bit different, Ive used the new K2 piano model which is an entirely new model for PT5.  Played in chromatic mode on horizontal layout with 2 splits, and you can see scale illuminator lighting my path for a minor scale, and with breath pipe for sustain pedal. Im not going to say what Im going to do next month... as it never works out the way I plan anyway! * I actually have been doing quite alot of experimenting, which will appear sooner or later! #EigenChallenge2014 #Eigenharp http://youtu.be/xStoAHZnMrE

Eigenharp Tau with LeapMotion, Geco, and Serenade III.

Image
Eigenharp Tau with LeapMotion, Geco, and Serenade III.    I replicated the config demonstrated by Hagai Davidoff, and it works okay.  I did flip the direction of "pressure" from his configuration, though; so now "closer to the body" means "more pressure", instead of less.  I'll probably tweak the config a little to add accent and noise knobs to pitch and roll;  while testing it out, i find that i swirl my hand around for no apparent reason other than it feels right; might as well try to tie that to something so I stop doing that or get some value from it.  Serenade III is kinda tempermental, though.  If the bow CC# ever loses input, it resets itself to the default position, and you get a really nasty fast motion and scrape noise. ;-(    If I knew enough about Reaktor, I could probably fix it and fix it to work like the EigenD cello model, where the key-bow sends a fixed value for the current bow velocity/pressure value.  Serenade requires a CHANGE in t...

The recorder control by Boss Dual Foot Switch FS-6

Image
The recorder control by Boss Dual Foot Switch FS-6 The wiring connections of pedal outputs 3/4 to the recorder talker to operate 'unplay/cancel' and 'bar record/overdub' from Bass station switch1/2 signal by foot switch Boss FS-6. Boss FS-6 switch A control EigenD's recorder unplay/cancel, switch B control EigenD's recorder bar record/overdub. This technique helps you that you are able to get record action without your finger when you play Eigenharp with both hands ☻

Free sampled instruments

Free sampled instruments  this guys site is very interesting he is creating sampled instruments for Kontakt based on the free samples available from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.  (he has other interesting projects too) … you could of course do something similar with the samples in the EigenD sampler, or with any other sample playback in your DAW.

Gnossienne #1 (updated)

Gnossienne #1 (updated) I continue to practice all the pieces Ive worked on... trying to steadily improve. So this one I video'd 5 months ago, hopefully shows progress. Main change is I now use the breath pipe for sustain on the piano  (which is Pianoteq 5 Bluethner). Ive also turned off the scale illuminator lights for pieces I know, and found it actually makes it easier (as you have fewer reference points) Very happy about this, basically Ive proven I can use to learn new pieces/scales with SI, then once I get comfortable turn them off, so working great as an instructional aid but not turning into a 'crutch'. (Im finding especially useful for improv/composition) Still lots of things to improve,  breath still needs more work and dynamics are probably my next area of focus. ... and new pieces too :) p.s. i think Pianoteq v5 might need some small changes to velocity curve. it feels a bit different, might get used to it - but not sure at the moment. http://youtu.be/pl0ym6JYZh...

Question about octave changing - one of the things that bothers me about the Pico is how octave changing behaves - on my EWI, when I'm playing a note and change octaves, the octave changes immediately mid-note. On the Pico, I have to start a new note for the octave change to take effect. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get around this? I thought about doing something with pitch bend, but then I'm limited to the pitch bend range of whatever is being controlled... Thanks, Seth

I bought the BOSS FS-6 to be able to foot operated the record button while playing the Eigenharp in order to validate the signal received from the foot switch input terminal on base station pro. But, I still couldn't find the way how wire to the recorder argent and writing talker action of EigenD2. (Thank you for reading my broken English,☻)

Hello everyone, I am having issues with EigenD crashing.

Hello everyone, I am having issues with EigenD crashing. I am using windows 8, and the latest version of EigenD 2.0.74-stable. It was working for me in the past, with the occasional crash mostly due to using cheap vst/au that were not super compilable with EigenD, but now its crashing after it loads. I don't press any keys, or anything. After it is fully loaded, roughly after a minute of just being idle it crashes. Is this a Windows 8 issue? I am assuming so, but I'm hoping someone has an answer/solution, or has heard of similar problems.

Bazille (from u-he) public beta

Image
Bazille (from u-he) public beta takes a bit of getting into, but wow, this is fun... warning its a bit addictive :) http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=411650 tip: it doesn't come with presets, but some of the old ones work and give a good ideas..  http://www.u-he.com/PatchLib/bazille.html   I liked 'infection' as its also shows a few techniques/templates note: the presets won't all work properly, as things have changed from the very early beta used for them.

Reaktor

Reaktor Ive already mentioned I was looking at Reaktor this month, I thought in this thread, I would list some interesting instruments/ensembles. To recap,  my interests lie in trying to find ways of creating some interesting instruments for the Eigenharp that can utilise its unique qualities... so Im looking for cool instruments  or ensembles that allow me to build them (easily/quickly). please contribute, if you know of more :) (all free and in NI user library, unless stated otherwise)

This looks interesting!

Pianoteq 5 preview

Pianoteq 5 preview Thanks to Oleg Sergeyev for pointing out the rumour of Pianoteq 5 in May, I stumbled on this preview (its not great). highlights seem to be: - improved physical model - Bluethner and K1 (now K2) updated to new model - new historical pianos - new microphone positioning they didn't give much info, but for me the model is the important bit, so looking forward to it :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h7_iOweG_U

Alchemy.

Alchemy.  I know others have said they like it alot, but Ive not really spent much time with it till today, and have to say I really like its control! Ok, it doesnt have voice per channel, but it does support poly pressure, and also its really easy to get direct envelope control - great for breath control. (just look for things controlled by relevant AHDSR, and change to a control in mod, and learn the control... you could do direct learn but this way you can see your input better) we should start hounding Camel Audio now for Alchemy 2 to have voice per channel... it would be absolute awesome... any other alchemy tips?

The merry month of May.

The merry month of May. so a new month, a new challenge. This month inspired by the talks at moogfest by Geert Bevin and Roger, I'm going to try and focus on sounds using the Eigenharps expression.  (I've been dodging this with the Piano :))  In particular looking at the tools I have, to use 3d control & more. So the last couple of days, Ive busy with the following: - Virus TI, look at creating multi timbral patches voice per channel, using direct CC control and the mod matrix each mapped to 3 CC & breath/strip controls - Reaktor, how to make voice per channel work in Reaktor. Ive got a 'prototype' macro that nearly works, it replaces the 'normal' midi gate/pitch/control/pitchbend... instead doing its own midi channel to voice mapping with a poly output.  Looks promising so far, idea is that you can dump it into any ensemble/instrument and easily rewire it to get voice per channel behaviour - given the huge number of Reaktor synths out there, the potenti...

Hi all

Hi all, I got my Tau and I'm trying to install Mark's agents so I can use the MIDI monitor to teach myself how to play. I ran the installer, but the dialog box disappeared after "gathering required information", and it didn't put a Read Me folder on my desktop. I'm thinking it didn't install. I've tried several times and there's no difference. Has anybody installed these successfully with Windows? I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Is the file supposed to be 284 KB? Thanks!
