This Dualo clip made me chuckle.

This Dualo clip made me chuckle. It is perhaps along the lines of what some of you had in mind when you suggested doing something like Pac-man on the LinnStrument? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPBHAmxm_gc&feature=share

Speaking of interesting alternative controllers. The Space Palette by Tim Thompson

Speaking of interesting alternative controllers. The Space Palette by Tim Thompson  I ran across this video from Burning Man after seeing Tim's name on a post by Geert Bevin of a video originally posted on KVR LinnStrument forum demonstrating LinnStrument control of a 4-track looper. Tim's name and signature is third (after Roger Linn and Geert) on the back of my LinnStrument Originally shared by Tim Thompson Space Palette at Burning Man 2014, in Illumination Village.

I added highlight colors to Les Norton's Tau keyboard layout diagram ( https://plus.google.com/105613129315034911815/posts/FTZB51rS1mr ) in order to better visualize the layout of basic chord patterns. On the left, red highlights C-major, green highlights G-major, and orange highlights F-major. On the right, red highlights A-minor, green E-minor, and orange D-minor. F-major and D-minor have different shapes from the others because they cross the 4° block boundaries.

Scale patterns and alternate layouts

Scale patterns and alternate layouts Here is a rough sketch of a few variations of horizontal layouts and the patterns of the basic major chords In the key of C. I think the over lapping colors helps to make the chord patterns more clearly visible As you can see, 4n works out much better with an offset of -2. 3+4n has long runs of vertical chords in a key.

Eigenharp performance layouts

Eigenharp performance layouts In the Eigenharp hangout on Sunday, António Machado shared something of a performance layout for his Alpha that he designed for a particular song that he performed for a reunion with his old group Anonimato. I was struck by the fact that many of the keys were disabled so that they could not be accidentally struck during the performance and that the number of active keys seemed very small. I did not quite grasp the layout of the active keys. António said that there was no logic to it only that it was the "best possible layout" for playing that particular song. Knowing that António puts a great deal of craft into his music, I personally think that those two statements are not quite compatible, but that perhaps the end result of much creative effort seems too simple to talk about. I am fascinated by the possibilities and I suspect that there are many special layouts that would work extraordinarily well for more than a few different songs and for var...
