Some good news on my end: got a new job.

Some good news on my end: got a new job. Which means less time for me to flood y’all, you’ll be relieved to know. But it also means that my means are increasing a bit. It can allow me to expand my setup a bit. One avenue is to make my Pico-based setup as small, portable, and untethered as possible. The Bela cape for BeagleBone Black sounds pretty sweet and Mark Harris has been made a special part of MEC for it. Mark, do you have a demo somewhere of how it works with the Pico? The other avenue would be to get a portable, wireless controller. ROLI’s Seaboard Block is rather attractive, in this case, particularly because of its integration with iOS. Would still spend most quality time with my Pico, but an expressive controller for my iPad softsynths would probably be very cool. Thoughts on these options?

Is there a standard way to record the audio output from EigenD?

Is there a standard way to record the audio output from EigenD? Got a few options on both macOS and Windows but was wondering if there might be an easier or more reliable solution directly from EigenD.

Woohoo! My Eigenharp adventures truly begin now!

Woohoo! My Eigenharp adventures truly begin now! Received my Pico yesterday, within a week of ordering, despite an issue with my bank not blocking the transaction at first (guess they haven’t caught up to my ways). Customs were the equivalent of 83£, so a bit more than VAT. The call from DHL about this was a bit strange, considering growing concern with security, but it went rather quickly. Installation on Windows was rather painless, although ever so slightly confusing (a sheet in the box said to use the DVD then the USB key; then had to update with an online version; sounds like it would have worked as well doing directly with Mark’s version). Then had a working instrument. Had heard several things which need to be experienced to be truly understood. Like the keys’ sensitivity. It’s one thing to get it intellectually but it’s another to start playing on such a sensitive keypad. During a meetup at a synth festival, someone had an analog synth with capacitive keys which were so sensiti...
Has there ever been an idea to use USB-C in a future instrument? Couldn’t it help get a massive throughput?

Ordered my (first) ’harp (a Black Pico).

Ordered my (first) ’harp (a Black Pico). After discussing it with someone close to me, that person decided to support my musicking activities. Perfect gift to myself. It’s also the ideal “mid-life crisis” purchase for someone who doesn’t drive, chase women, or go for much conspicuous consumption. Which means that you might have to endure my questions and such. Will try to keep everything reasonable, but it’s a bit too exciting, already. Thanks all for your help, already! Can’t wait to explore new musicking horizons. For instance, do you think it’s possible to do some automatic harmonization within EigenD for Windows or macOS? Was able to create some neat harmony tricks in Sonic Pi. It’d be fun to do it within EigenD even if (or, because) it requires some learning. Wow. Major thing in my life, honestly. Wouldn’t be surprised if Eigenlabs were to get a spike in Canadian sales… ;-)

Has anyone been in touch with Eigenlabs, recently?

Has anyone been in touch with Eigenlabs, recently? Noticed that their online presence isn’t very current (no Facebook or Twitter activity for years, unwanted messages in the forum, missing pages on their site...). Just tried calling and it told me the user was unavailable. It does sound like the online store still works but it’s a bit strange to purchase a new instrument if the company behind it isn’t really present. Which might lead me to buy a used instrument but, obviously, they’re not easy to find...

Noticing the category for self-introduction.

Noticing the category for self-introduction. Might help provide a bit more context to my query. (After joining the group, noticed that Mark Harris was also telling me about it.) Longterm sax player and ethnomusicologist. Owner of a Yamaha WX11 since the mid-1990s. Born and raised in Montreal but lived in different places, from Lausanne, Switzerland, and Bamako, Mali, to Bloomington, Indiana, Mtoncton, New Brunswick, and Austin, Texas. Bilingual ethnographer, now living in Ottawa, Ontario. Was introduced to electronic music in 1989 at my music school’s “MIDI Studio” where we used an experimentation method based on Brazil’s Samba schools to explore things like Ensoniq EPS, MOTU Performer (before DP), Yamaha DX7, E-mu Proteus, etc. Through friends, kept in touch with this scene for a few years. Eventually played with things like IRCAM’s Max (before MSP), Laurie Spiegel’s Music Mouse, Digidesign Turbosynth, Passport Alchemy (not Camel Audio’s), and Joel Chadabe’s M (before Zicarelli). Was...

Hey all!

Hey all! Anyone using mec-app with a Pico on a Raspberry Pi 3? If so, how usable is it, overall? Getting very close to buying my first Eigenharp. RasPi support would go a long way to help me “bite the bullet”. Been using Sonic Pi and Pure Data on Raspbian so my efforts on the platform have other parts. Being able to connect a Pico to a Raspberry Pi and then send MIDI or OSC to other devices would greatly help. Thanks!
