Unsure whether to post this or not, but I've decided to throw caution to the wind!  Last minute entry for February's #eigenchallenge2014   My first attempt at improvisation, with a backing track I found lying around.  It goes a bit scrappy in the middle, and the ending is a bit "hacked" as the backing track had another 10 minutes to run, and I've run out of time for clever editing! Played on Eigenharp Pico with Sample Modelling's Tenor Sax.  Backing track credit is unavailable, I'm afraid, sorry! (PS. I created  an EigenChallenge2014 tag on Soundcloud if others want to add it to their uploads :) https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/sax-improv-ec-2014-feb

Alpha Mk3 breath pipes available !

Alpha Mk3 breath pipes available ! really looking forward to this...as mine has blocked again. fortunately (?), Eigenlabs knew this, so my Mk3 is already en-route! ... will report back when arrives in next few days, http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1387/

Here's another option that I've been considering to travel with the Tau, a Chapman Stick soft case. Does anyone have one of these to try the Tau with? http://www.stick.com/accessories/cases/

Interesting fact, the Tau is apparently perfect for air travel.

Interesting fact, the Tau is apparently perfect for air travel. No problems at all to ask for carry-on reservation. Its length doesn't exceed a bass guitar and its width and depth are much smaller. It's also a lot lighter. I'm planning to carry it around in a regular bass guitar gig bag (already tried, perfect fit), which will be a nice improvement over the instrument case that I use for the Alpha. http://www.eigenlabs.com/product/tau/

Hi All

Hi All, Hope everyone is well.  After a bit of a break from all things EigenD, I've been playing with Mark Harris's fantastic Creator.  I've never made the effort to get over the learning curve in the past, configuring everything via Workbench, but after playing for a day I've got my head around it and it's a revelation - what was taking hours to build in WB is now scriptable and taking 10 seconds to rebuild at will.  Brilliant work Mark!   Now to my question: One of the things that didn't used to be possible via Belcanto was setting up the MIDI routing matrix.  Is that still the case?  That's the final step in my quest for completely automatic rebuilding of my setups. Cheers, Mark.

I heard a demo of the CS80v and fell in love...Does anyone here have any experience or opinions on using the Eigenharp to control hardware synths?   I'm looking for an affordable analog synth that responds to polyphonic aftertouch (and pitch or mod)   ???

Hi, just arrived to the community.

Hi, just arrived to the community. Well, I DONT own an Eigenharp. In fact, I just discovered the existence of this incredible device and I am so excited about it that somehow I had to be here. In the past I have been into many different styles including pop, rock, punk, flamenco, samba, bossa nova, children music, experimental, ambience improvised poetry. I have some material to post if anyone is interested. Just want to learn from you if you agree. Thank you all very much and keep taping.  I am member number 123.  It's funny. Reinon

Someone with a new tau needs help... http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1386/ Im trying, but it sounds a very strange problem, keyboard appears to work, metro works ... yet no sound, and menus display, yet don't allow selection...  post your ideas there, I'm starting to run out :o) http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1386

Open question from a new Alpha user -

Open question from a new Alpha user - What kind of computer are you using and which virtual instruments? Myself - for now, I'm running on a 3.4 GHz iMac 12 GB RAM, under OSX 10.7.5.

Pico Mix scripts in Pico Mix

Pico Mix scripts in Pico Mix I was playing with Mark Harris's Pico Mix last night (looks nice!) and couldn't work out how to use orange (session) mode. In particular, I couldn't seem to browse or run scripts. I brought up EigenBrowser, but no amount of button pressing changed what I saw or the nature of the sounds. I had put the provided scripts (pico mix 1-8 and user 1-8) in the top level of my Scripts directory. Is anyone able to offer some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Could someone in the know post an explanation of what the Channels and Filters really do, and how to use them...

Could someone in the know post an explanation of what the Channels and Filters really do, and how to use them correctly? I know they can be critical, but don't see when and where and how they actually matter....  for instance, if I have multiple KeyGroups linkable to the same  AudioUnit Rigs, should I be labeling each cable from the same KeyGroup with the same Channel Number?  Or use the same Channel Number for each cable going to a given AudioUnit Rig, i.e., same number from several KeyGroups?  And how far upstream / downstream does one need to apply the Channel number?  Not sure what the principle really is.... And the Filters?  I see reference to it being the opposite....  And I see it used for create "SuperMIDI" buttons that are carved out of the assigned field of KeyGroup notes and intended to send Roll, Yaw, or Pressure messages as separately assignable (MIDI? VST/AU Automation?) control messages....   I've found I can reprogram existing setups to move those key...

Finally I can show something.

Finally I can show something. I played it using 3xn horizontal layout with Pianoteq U4 as the sound source.  It took me about two month to learn, hope the next ones will take less. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOgdlYfMGww

My attempt for February for the #EigenChallenge2014

My attempt for February for the #EigenChallenge2014   A departure from what I planned, as I wanted to do something with the Orange Tree Samples Evolution Guitar... after learning to play the Spanish Romance, which sounds so wonderful with it. http://youtu.be/QKM-6RMVAjQ

Here's my contribution to February's #eigenchallenge2014

Here's my contribution to February's #eigenchallenge2014 . I'm not particularly pleased with the result, but I was getting fed up with working on it, so just wanted to get shot of it. This month I wanted to use the Eigenharp's live looping capabilities. The track is a live recording, with the only non-live edits being a few seconds of silence chopped of the start and end. Lessons learned... Learning to play broad in sync with the drum track took a while, but I got it quicker than I thought I might. Trying to find appropriate melodies to mix against the main tune was surprisingly difficult - I spent ages trying to find a 4-bar melody that worked under the main 8-bar tune. Selecting the right sound for each part also makes a huge difference. Playing technique is more important than I'd imagined, and it becomes especially obvious when it's recorded and you hear it played back. (I realise it's not great in the recorded version here.) This tune is a whole lot mo...

Reaktor

Reaktor  I finished reading synth secrets, fascinating read… but does drive you a different way to synthesis… Im not going to but a modular, but next best thing is Reaktor (I think… and I have it) read the manuals, so now ready to dig in…. its exciting, as it really is a simple way to build per key expressive instruments … and easy enough to convert the vast user library.  and given it supports sampling, and lots of different types of synthesis out of the box… the possibilities are endless  :o)

#Creator   Having a break (really? not so) got to go back about one-key-chord Matthew Walton   playing and ideas. checked something on Mark Harris   github.

Just a note about using current version of Kontakt 5.

Just a note about using current version of Kontakt 5. I've used Kontakt for years, and have been using it with my Alpha since getting the Alpha.  (The SonicCoutureVST instruments are excellent, by the way...) After not doing so for a long time, I just downloaded the updates, to version 5.3.0.6464/ 3.1.0.4 . Very bad move.  This version completely crashes EigenD every time you close the GUI interface.  (Regardless of which of the three methods you use....)   After a day of assuming that it was my custom setups, I finally figured out that it crashes in the Factory setups also... Fortunately I had easy access to an earlier version (5.1.0.6066 / 3.0.014) that came on my Ultimate 9 disk, and rolling back to that immediately eliminated the problem in all  setups... I'll send a similar message to the NI folk, but unless it is affecting more than EigenD users they may not be rushing out a fix.... Hope this saves someone  else the pain!

Pedals?

Pedals? im thinking about getting a fcb1010.... but id also like an analogue pedal that could be plugged into the basestation or my keyboard ... would a yamaha fc7 work? ( bit confused about the analogue pedals... sustain, volume, expression ones for guitars not keyboard ... all greek to me!) anyone any experience/recommendations?

#EigenChallenge2014 - February, go go go...

#EigenChallenge2014  - February, go go go... Great to see all the entries for January, more for Feb? ... remember doesn't matter if you haven't submitted before, just join in the fun this month. This month Im focusing on layering as its a skill id love to have. Ive already started using Live 9 and the Pico (with OscPad), and will probably continue as long as I don't get too distracted by #Numerology   any one working on ideas yet? or just going to see what crops up? either way, good way to have fun and enjoy making some music.
