Looking forward to meeting and hearing Paul Harriman perform in May at Asheville, NC for the electro-music event.

Looking forward to meeting and hearing Paul Harriman perform in May at Asheville, NC for the electro-music event. Paul has been a constant proponent and outreacher for the Eigenharp at the e-m events I. Asheville and NY over the past years. Will be nice to put face with music. Wish he were a frequenter here.
How are you recording audio (not MIDI to audio) output from the Eigenharp with no or acceptable latency?

I just noticed that the 'Recordings' folder in my 'EigenLabs' folder is full of previous recordings. Megs and megs.

I just noticed that the 'Recordings' folder in my 'EigenLabs' folder is full of previous recordings.  Megs and megs. Does EigenD ever delete these?  If so, under what conditions? TIA
Another oddball question: When creating a stage tab, what's the widget for "midi channel N output browse"

By the way, I did a video for my Eigenharp track. I just thought some of you might like it.

By the way, I did a video for my Eigenharp track. I just thought some of you might like it. As an aside, I've had two bogus claims made via YouTube from other people claiming that my music was theirs. I'm fighting it, but seriously not pleased -- in the mean time, I have a 'buy it now' link for someone else's completely unrelated track. I suspect it's due to automated matching picking up the NASA audio sample (which is very definitely public domain). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rdH5zxKNC8

Mobius with EigenD

Mobius with EigenD  Ok, so after the last hangout, I decide I would try Mobius  see http://www.circularlabs.com/index.html Looks very interesting indeed, and as Geert Bevin mentioned it was for me more stable than SuperLoooper. How have people connected it up? I tried 2 ways... a) Standalone via JackOSX, works nicely, but then its another thing to load, so not so keen b) As an AU hosted in EigenD Im want to create a script that does (b) but before I 'commit it', I thought Id see how others have done it, and 'preferred approach' I tried a few different ways, but the most successful for me was... create a new audio unit agent, wire it up between console mixer and the audio agent. then in Mobius, I limited it to 2 channel, and turn audio monitor to ON. This worked ok, but there are a couple of other approaches I considered... a) create audio unit, and wire every rig to its 16 channels (this works for max 8 rigs), then wire the mobius audio unit into another channel on the ...

Can anyone share details on instrument quality issues for those made pre mid-2010, specifically Alphas?

Can anyone share details on instrument quality issues for those made pre mid-2010, specifically Alphas? Is there anything I should be concerned with if considering a used instrument from those period? Appreciate your input.

Rig scripts and Pico Mix

Rig scripts and Pico Mix =================== Update: all factory rigs now available!! All have a new home  - on github! https://github.com/TheTechnobear/Eigenharp I decided that now Im working on multiple things, I need to be a bit more organised about versioning, so that others can see whats changing. It also makes release cycle easier for me to... Quick note: I know previously Ive been very much pico centric, but the new stuff is not, so Alpha/Tau owners the scripts can be used by you too :) Rigs & Scripts Synth Rig - updated with comments, showing how to create a rig,  Audio Unit Rig - to create an audio unit Simple Sampler Rig - a one oscillator sampler Double Sampler Rig - crossfade between 2 samplers Panpipe Rig - as created by António Machado , sounds great! Clarinet Rig - note, does not include stringer as incompatible with fingerer agent, i therefore always put stringer outside rig. Midi Rig - Thanks to António Machado  Cello Rig - note, you need eigenbrowser open for it t...

(sigh)

(sigh) So I'm trying to work through the talkers stuff from scratch, and I'm failing pretty hard. I'm using the examples at http://myeigenharp.wordpress.com/2013/3/27/a-bit-more-about-talkers/ > and trying to adapt it for what I want, and...      # create a button on the main keygroup     main keygroup hey output 50 create     main keygroup hey keygroup output 50 key row to 1 set     main keygroup hey keygroup output 50 key column to 1 set     talker create     it to song talker name ify     song talker hey " metronome 1 hey toggle start " when 1 called 1 do [?]     # now hook it up???     main keygroup hey keygroup output 50 to song talker connect Now, that doesn't throw an error, but it doesn't work either.  It gives me a button that seems to dump me into an empty keygroup, instead of toggling the metronome. Help? I'm so confused.  [?] While we're here, how do we add actions 2, 3, ... ,n to a key? what does this "when n called n do" ...

Is it possible to get the eigenharp's key(lights) to display incoming notes from another instrument?

Is it possible to get the eigenharp's key(lights) to display incoming notes from another instrument?  Ideally i would like to have the light notes change depending on (chords it receives from another source).   this idea is inspired by the ipad app chordion.   currently i know that you can change the scale using incoming midi.  But I want the eigenharps lights to monitor and change according to a harmony/backing track.  thanks in advance

Thanks to Mike Milton & António Machado at G+ hangout , I will be checking out Mobius  and Superlooper tomorrow, for simple loop recording :) Mobius -  http://www.circularlabs.com/index.html Superlooper -  http://essej.net/sooperlooper/index.html Superlooper looks particular interesting as links in with Jack, which I already  using. Also, will follow up on getting the cross-fader sampler working on the Pico, as its sounded excellent when they both showed it off. Watch this space! Torsten Anders pehaps we can follow up your issues with your user scales, see if we can reproduce?

Wanted : Used Alpha OR Tau

Wanted : Used Alpha  OR  Tau EDIT: yes, Ive updated, I will go for either a Tau or an Alpha, obviously at the appropriate price. So, anyone have a used Alpha or Tau that they are not playing as much as they thought they would?  Want it to go to a home where it will get used everyday! Must be in good condition and of course fully working :) Willing to pay a fair price, will pay via PayPal to ensure protection on both sides. Will need to be shipped to Spain, but Im willing to contribute to shipping costs. Unfortunately, must be in UK or Europe (as outside europe would incur Duty/VAT). email: mark AT technobear.com

Alright, I'm probably trying to do something the utterly wrong way, but here goes:

Alright, I'm probably trying to do something the utterly wrong way, but here goes: Is there a way to tell eigenbrowser to take an action from belcanto?  I can see how the browser button in the percussion keys operates, and watch it move around the eigenbrowser, and tapping on it makes it do things.  So, if i do "eigenbrowser , interpreter hey script browse" it goes into the scripts menu, and I could move around, but I'd rather have a script drive and do the selection for me (so that I can bake a small 'kicker' into a talker button, instead of having to bake an entire script into a talker button..) I was hoping it would be something like "eigenbrowser , interpreter hey script 2 choose" and so forth, but that errors out..

Does anyone know what causes the "Won't Connect" bug in Stage?

Does anyone know what causes the "Won't Connect" bug in Stage? (witnessed in 2.0.66 and 2.0.74).   You know, the one where when you launch Stage, you get an empty "untitled" tab, and the only way to get it to connect to a running eigenD is to ⌘-L to Unlock; ⌘-C to connect, select the eigenD host; wait for the tabs to import, then ⌘-L to re-lock the config. This bug is really irritating.

So, I've got a question.

So, I've got a question... How do you inspect/decompile a "setup"?   I presume these setups (~/Library/Eigenlabs/${version}/Setups) somehow originate as big belcanto scripts, but if you try loading the files into an editor, there's some strings that aren't belcanto, a bunch of binary goop, and some XML-ish crap.  Of particular interest is how a saved setup can adjust parameters of a loaded AU/VST plugin. I've noticed that a saved setup saves my settings in the AU, even when I haven't saved those settings in the AU itself; so, clearly, it's able to replay my configuration somehow on load. What I'm trying to do is build some scripts that transition my rig from song to song, for live performances; where loading a new setup from scratch is fraught with peril (takes minutes; NI AU's can shit the bed, etc..).    I've basically settled on an overall configuration, and the details are really only minor stuff like keygroup layout changes, tonic/scal...

Synth Rig in Belcanto

Synth Rig in Belcanto Ive been thinking about doing this for a time... creating rigs in belcanto... also give some more 'musical' things for Ian Clark cookbook find it here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27614328/donotmove/Belcanto/Scripts/useful/createsynth.bc In this script you will find everything needed to create the synth rig, and also link it into Pico Mix 7... (the linking in, is commented out, and you could easily change to use with tau/alpha etc - but serves to demonstrate whats need to link up a new rig) My hope is in the future, to create also the ones for Sampler, Audio Unit and  Midi ... these should be pretty simple now Ive ironed out the 'oddities' of belcanto and rig creation - so watch this space :) Note: Id hope these scripts were in the open source but they are not, only 1.4 versions are. Edit: fixed loudness issue, was due to belcanto incorrectly auto connecting cutoff frequency - now fixed.
Does anybody actually type Belcanto phrases into their eigenharp as musical notes?
Anyone heard from Duncan Foster? He was in Boston late last week. Hope he got out before today's event.

I'm a trumpet player, and was wondering if it was possible to configure my new Pico to a trumpet like fingering...

I'm a trumpet player, and was wondering if it was possible to configure my new Pico to a trumpet like fingering scheme. I envision three keys as the keys of the trumpet, 1 modifying down one whole note, 2 modifying down a half note and 3 modifying down 1.5 notes. And then have a number of keys selecting the base note to modify from. (f.ex. 1 being C5, 2 being G5, 3 being C6 etc) I'm aware there's something called a fingerer agent, but I haven't yet figured out how to even load the tin whistle fingering, let alone found out how to make my own, so I could use some pointers. Much appreciated.

I'm trying to send a specific MIDI note using Talker and Player agents.

I'm trying to send a specific MIDI note using Talker and Player agents.  I've included a screen shot of the test setup below.  The Belanco does not through errors.  I'm hoping its just some silly omission on my part. The purpose for this is to build a key group to control Ableton Live's session view (arm tracks, select scenes, etc.). Thanks in advance for any assistance. Randy

I'm trying, slow but sure, to build out my live set.

I'm trying, slow but sure, to build out my live set. Working on converting a composition I recorded into Reaper a couple years ago for a Tau performance setup. It used several AAS synth patches from the Synth Studio plugin. I forgot how interesting that plugin is, and very playable with Tau. Thanks to John Nolan, I believe, for the turn on. Still some work to do, but hope to get an early video up over the weekend.

DAWs...

DAWs... I guess this has been asked countless times before, so apologise in advance, but I could not find anything... I dont know much about daws, really just played with garageband a few times... but I think my requirements are: - straightforward DAW setup that I can use with EigenD, for the Mac ... preferably that is not a resource hog, so I can also use on my laptop :)  ... i - -  Dont want to spend too much, as I want really to invest in new hardware (musical and computing) - Want to do simple stuff, recording loops playback etc, perhaps also extend my rather limited instrument selection as well. (though ive downloaded quite a few soundfonts) - Im keen that it should be able to capture the expressiveness of the eigenharp, rather than just be pure midi capture. - Im technically capable, but really dont want to get too sidetracked into spending hours playing with it :) options I can see so far are: - Garageband (well I have this anyway) - Reaper  - Live (Intro) - Reason (Essentials) ...

A cool development for keyboardists who sometimes wish they could play violin!

A cool development for keyboardists who sometimes wish they could play violin! "A system that uses synthesis software to translate data sent from an optical flow sensor, which tracks the speed, motion and angle of a wooden rod in high resolution as it is moved across it. The data is used to modify music created from a hooked-up keyboard (which creates the notes and pitch), meaning a player can replicate the subtle tones of a bow gliding across strings, not just the staccato notes produced by typical orchestral keyboard effects." Pico Mix 7

Pico Mix 7 Been a bit delayed, as Ive spent more time playing, than doing setups. Wondered why Id been leaving that 'blank' mode empty? Well, wonder no more, it now is populated with the the Arranger! They said the pico, was too small, to allow effective control -  bah humbug to that!!! - now the pico now has the arranger in a very easy to use format, switch to blank mode,  menu select, 1 is the arrangers controls,  2-7 are the first 7 actions. (you will hardly need the arranger controls) demo is preloaded using sampler 2 player, hit metronome and you will hear it. Its currently experimental, as would like to do a fresh recreate of it... nope, Im not mad, Ive now switched to using scripts to create, which you will also find in the zip - this makes it very easy recreate, and also to updated e.g. add more 'virtual keygroups' - i'll probably add a full 15 once im happy its ok.  EDIT - now recreated, so not experimental :) so what you waiting for? go get it :) https://d...

NYC / Boston area eigenharp player wanted for gig

NYC / Boston area eigenharp player wanted for gig Reposting from the forum: I'm looking for an Eigenharp player for a corporate technology gig in Boston the first week in June. Please let me know if you know of anyone interested in this type of work.  Thank you  -John O'Brien  925-280-7829  (California) http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1264/

I have a question.

I have a question. I'm trying to set up something complicated in Ableton Live, and I'd like to use the percussion keys to trigger loops. Basically, what I'd really like to be able to do is set up a third MIDI channel (could be a second channel on one of the two existing interfaces), and disable all controller output from the percussion keys. The problem I'm having currently is that I can't actually set up a key to trigger something because the controller data is immediately stamping on my attempt to set up the trigger in Live. Any ideas? I'm very new to Workbench (and Eigenharp, for that matter), so I'm jut getting started here. I know Live pretty well, however.
