Numerology 4

Numerology 4 Just in case i wasn't experimenting with enough already… I've just got my hands on Numerology 4 :o)  Really excited by this and will be looking at how I can integrate with the Eigenharp... perhaps OSC via Max/EigenD initially.   #Numerology

Earth as Art - Icefall on the Lambert Glacier

Earth as Art - Icefall on the Lambert Glacier I can't let António Machado have all the fun, so threw this together. I quite like the idea of using these images for my experiments in sound design, and other experimentation. This was done on the Alpha, on the lead part I tried to emulate the Theremin by using the 2 strips as volume/pitch, The pico was used  to control Live 9 (via oscpad), and all sounds designed and  produced on my Virus TI. A lot of fun :)  https://soundcloud.com/thetechnobear/january-icefall-on-the-lambert https://soundcloud.com/thetechnobear/january-icefall-on-the-lambert

Starting a monthly post featuring a sound source (hardware, synth or sound module) from my studio and Eigenharp playing, with inspiration on a image of NASA "Earth As Art".  http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=3039 01 January - Yamaha VL-1m (all sounds and effects, edited patches) + Eigenharp Double Pico  Two Strip controllers, one breath Pipe, right hand 16 playing keys, 2 octave keys same for the left hand, recorded 4 tracks as VL-1m is monophonic (capable of duophonic) virtual acoustic.  Its also part of #Eigenchallenge2014  https://soundcloud.com/palaires/01-january-142-vatnajo-kull

Ok, so I'm not sure if this has been discussed in the past, but I've noticed an I2C port on the basestation pro.

Ok, so I'm not sure if this has been discussed in the past, but I've noticed an I2C port on the basestation pro.  Is there support for this in the firmware/EigenD?  Has anybody successfully used it?

About Routing Matrix - mapping each key to MIDI Program Change…   There was an entry in the  Routing matrix that allow each key to send MIDI Program Change message… this maybe became redundant. I've tried some different ways and can't get this functionality, some help please Geert Bevin ;-)

Here's my offering for the #EigenChallenge2014 (January). The tune featured in an episode the children's TV programme Bagpuss, which I used to watch, and which my daughter still enjoys. Pico in factory default. https://soundcloud.com/niksilver/the-millers-song

Alpha + Pico

Image
Alpha + Pico An idea Ive been playing with for the February #EigenChallenge2014 . Attaching my Pico to the harness for use as a controller for Ableton Live (using OscPad agent)... at the moment its just a bit of fun, but actually worked surprisingly well.   (the ball joint of the harness keeps the alpha from fouling the pico)

New pico user here, waiting anxiously to see if my order for an alpha gets filled.

New pico user here, waiting anxiously to see if my order for an alpha gets filled. Been trolling the group for a while...pleasure to meet you all! One question to start...is it possible to connect two harps to a single eigend instance? One crazy thought I had if there aren't enough alpha orders for the build is to get two taus and attach them back to back, which appeals to me as an ewi player used to using my thumbs for octaves and pitch bend.

#Creator update - new Iterate feature

#Creator update - new Iterate feature My config files have been getting very big recently. The reason is simple, even one line to connect key group output to a rig makes for a lot of lines when you have 12 rigs, and 6 key groups.... and Ive a similar problem linking ScaleIlluminator. So Ive introduced a new feature... Iterate! My new Ableton live setup config used to be 329 lines, it now is only 188 ... nearly half the size!  not bad for something that generates 2241 lines of belcanto! so how does it do it... Lets say we have a config lines like: midi/linkmidirig.bc:percussion keygroup:midi rig 1:1:11:1:1: midi/linkmidirig.bc:percussion keygroup:midi rig 2:2:11:1:2: midi/linkmidirig.bc:percussion keygroup:midi rig 3:3:11:1:3: we can now replace this with: Iterate:%X%:midi rig 1,midi rig 2,midi rig 3:midi/linkmidirig.bc:percussion keygroup:%X%:%IDX%:11:1:%IDX: so whats going on here... generally the format is: Iterate:VAR(=offset):LIST:existing config line to iterate  VAR is the variab...

Hi Mark Harris

Hi Mark Harris  I wanted to check your idea with piano-style velocities and compiled  eigend.2.10 from your fork. All is good but for some reason scale illuminator won't load. Here is what I got in the log. I admit, I don't use the latest version of the agent. I wonder if you've some insight what causing it.  eigend-backend: File "plg_scale_illuminator/scale_illuminator_plg.py", line 8, in eigend-backend: ImportError: dlopen(/usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator/scale_illuminator_plg_native.so, 2): Symbol not found: __ZlsRSoRKN3piw11data_base_tE   Referenced from: /usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator//libscale_illuminator_plg.dylib   Expected in: /usr/pi/release-2.1.0-experimental/bin//libpiw.dylib  in /usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator//libscale_illuminator_plg.dylib

I'm considering using the Pico for accompanying myself singing.

I'm considering using the Pico for accompanying myself singing. It seems to me that a good idea for that might be if I can get it to behave something like the bass end of an accordion - i.e. at least some of the buttons produce chords rather than single notes. I'm not looking to do anything enormously complicated, musically - at least not at first. Does anybody have any ideas how one might do this? I guess it's fairly simple to hook up multiple sound-producing agents within the setup, but I don't know how you'd go about arranging for them to produce the right notes. I don't have Ableton or MAX or anything like that which I could program to do it either.

A simple offering from a novice for #EigenChallenge2014 :)

A simple offering from a novice for #EigenChallenge2014 :) Andante in C by Carulli from my son's classical guitar book.  Played on a Pico (so slightly tweaked to avoid using the octave keys).  Who wants to play "guess the VST"? https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/andante-in-c https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/andante-in-c

Hi Mark Harris , I'm still having trouble getting some of the Creator .conf files to run...(some run fine!).  Conf/Basic/Alpha/basic6au1midi3splits stops for me at "hey octave to 3 set   false".  And Conf/Experimental/alpha/createmegaau.conf stops immediately at "sample rig 1 un create   false"  Given that I can get some  .conf files to run fine, is there perhaps something additional I need to do to run these? Thanks for your patience.   I think I've gone about as far as I can in taking apart the factory setups, and am looking forward to assembling some alternatives using the building blocks you and the others have made available. Much appreciated.

A short piece for the Eigenharp

A short piece for the Eigenharp http://youtu.be/YAjM8TakhtY my attempt for January for the #EigenChallenge2014 . my first attempt at something different, so quite short and simple, just my Alpha, my Virus TI and I having fun :) http://youtu.be/YAjM8TakhtY

Velocities from EigenD

Velocities from EigenD  has anyone played with the num samples,curve,scale? (midi/vst) Ive been looking at how they are calculated (quite interesting), and also been doing some experiments with Max, to see how my playing is. Although it sounds even, the midi values are quite varied.... Ive been thinking about the algo and the default sample (4) is pretty low considering we get 2000/sec. this probably explains the multipliers and scale being so high, as the velocity is really done off of only the first few pressure samples. thoughts? anyone fine tuned? btw, for record...  my belief is you play by feel and what you hear, so in someways as long as its constant it doesn't matter. so my aim here is seeing if I can get more consistent results. #velocity   #eigend

This is pretty neat. As per most of the comments, it would be fun to play with using this as an IR.

strummer or not…

strummer or not… I've been playing the OTS guitar in contact quite a bit recently. I'm quite interested in getting the midi guitar working, but i think it has a different idea about this than strummer. In particular, it assumes each string is assigned a particular midi channel (e.g. 1=top 5=bottom) where as, I believe (am i wrong?) strummer + midi, will round robin the midi channels … i.e. although it makes each string monophonic, its doesn't fix the midi channel per string as such. (e.g. string 2 could be on midi ch 3 or 4) i guess Id like, course 1 to be fixed to midi channel 1. are my assumptions correct? is there any way around this? (without loading the instrument 5 times in kontakt) id like to resolve this, as I've an (i think) interesting idea, about using the arranger for automating strum patterns. (if you've seen ample guitar, you will know what I mean)

Nice side-effect of upgrading Juce to the latest version is that there was a lot of work done in the library to better support VST plugins on MacOSX. All the VST versions that I was unable to load in EigenD 2.0 now seem to load without any trouble on today's EigenD 2.1 built from source on Mavericks!

Looking at the large Juce checkin Geert's just landed got me thinking about sidechain support in EigenD.

Looking at the large Juce checkin Geert's just landed got me thinking about sidechain support in EigenD. Did this ever get addressed? If not, does anyone have any idea feeling for how hard it might be to add? http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1153/?page=1#snap_post9881

#EigenChallenge2014 - the game is on...

#EigenChallenge2014   - the game is on... Ive created two threads over at eigenlabs, one for entries and one for discussion over at eigenlabs.com . Would be great to get as many people involved as possible, and show the world that we all use our Eigenharps :o)  Game on... entries can be submitted any time during the month, and as many as you want - and don't forget to cross post here at G+ in your music too. ... so now I have to get cracking, to make sure I can get something half decent in 3 weeks.

Anyone building EigenD on OSX of late?

Anyone building EigenD on OSX of late? I haven't done this in a while and had deleted my build environment due to lack of space on my laptop. Having just downloaded the source and cannot get it to build. Can someone remind me of the steps I need to go through?

Eigenharp monthly challenge for 2014?

Eigenharp monthly challenge for 2014? Inspired by a new year and some interesting posts about the the merits of producing regularly - I'm going to attempt to produce a piece a month for 2014. But I was thinking wouldn't it be great if others could do the same - think of the body of music we could create. Focus would be on motivating to produce, improving, feedback and throwing ideas around etc, so we don't get hung up on 'is it good enough'. Simple to organize, open for everything/everyone -though I think we need at least 3-4 others for it to make sense as a 'challenge'. Any takers? Just one piece a month - easy, no?

Eigenbrowser - Mac 10.9 issue.

Eigenbrowser - Mac 10.9 issue. as reported on this post at Eigenlabs... http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1369/ can someone who is on 10.9, and has a tau or alpha check to see if the issue is for all devices - my suspicion is that it is, and i believe it is isolated to Eigenbrowser.
