Is there a way to stream live audio from a Mac to a PC? Just tired of plugging the headphones back and forth;)

Legato and Fingerings.

Legato and Fingerings. Things seem to quite down after Mark Harris's release so I'd like to discuss the topic of fingerings. How you guys go about learning a new piece? Do you write all the fingerings? Up until now I did just that, and then memorized it all. Currently, I started learning sight-reading applying it to some staccato piece so I just go as I feel and jump if stuck. Nevertheless, legato has its virtues and it seems to me that there is no way of guessing which finger to use so as to not getting stuck at one point or another.  I'm curious to know if it's an issue for you as well? Maybe you just can read a dozen measures ahead and like a chess player plan your moves. The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about creation of an automatic fingering generator that will add fingering notation to an existing score in MusicXML format. I outlined the idea in my comment to Mark's post https://plus.google.com/110586757591577940744/posts/8Mfw7cY9Nuv Toda...

Finally I can show something.

Finally I can show something. I played it using 3xn horizontal layout with Pianoteq U4 as the sound source.  It took me about two month to learn, hope the next ones will take less. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOgdlYfMGww

Hi Mark Harris

Hi Mark Harris  I wanted to check your idea with piano-style velocities and compiled  eigend.2.10 from your fork. All is good but for some reason scale illuminator won't load. Here is what I got in the log. I admit, I don't use the latest version of the agent. I wonder if you've some insight what causing it.  eigend-backend: File "plg_scale_illuminator/scale_illuminator_plg.py", line 8, in eigend-backend: ImportError: dlopen(/usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator/scale_illuminator_plg_native.so, 2): Symbol not found: __ZlsRSoRKN3piw11data_base_tE   Referenced from: /usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator//libscale_illuminator_plg.dylib   Expected in: /usr/pi/release-2.1.0-experimental/bin//libpiw.dylib  in /usr/pi/contrib-2.0-stable/plugins/TheTechnobear/plg_scale_illuminator//libscale_illuminator_plg.dylib

Came upon an interesting text about learning motoric skills.

Came upon an interesting text about learning motoric skills.  It's a review of the research done in the area with some emphasis given to musical technique. Being about 72 pages, it's reasonably short and provides a nice compilation of facts, learning techniques and scientific reasoning.  http://mechnerfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Learning-and-Practicing-Skilled-Performance.pdf

Since you've been talking on various issues with EigenD, I've got to ask this:

Since you've been talking on various issues with EigenD, I've got to ask this: How much time do you get from an EigenD process before you need to reload it? I usually get about a week, by which time the keys start chewing the notes first intermittently and then stop responding altogether. The orange light still appears upon a key press, but no midi data arrive, as far as I can tell from the Pianoteq's midi monitor. Has such a thing happen to you? I use a macbook air  if it matters.

Mark Harris , I tried to use Scale Illuminator agent with the experimental basic midi setup.

Mark Harris , I tried to use Scale Illuminator agent with the experimental basic midi setup. It didn't work. I pulled the relevant lines from the supplied .bc script and changed the output name, but it didn't help. I noticed that when created your illuminator agent makes some connections on its own which leads me to suspect that it was meant to be used exclusively with the factory setups. Am I right?

I would like to talk a little about finger flexibility.

I would like to talk a little about finger flexibility. Prior to the eigenharp I had no experience with instruments that rely much on good finger dexterity like the guitar or the piano. Right from the start I felt that my fingers leave much to be desired. I’m curious how it’s with you.  Most of you are professional musicians and have had training with either of those instruments, so did any of you feel right at home with EH from the get go? If not, did you do something about it besides the obvious? As for myself, I have been doing every manner of finger flexibility/independence exercise that I could find on the net, and feel the improvement every day.

Hi

Hi, I've been learning to play Alpha for a month and there is some thoughts to share and questions to ask. I began by trying every layout available through Mark's Creator utility (thank you very much, by the way). My goal was to find a layout that is most suitable for playing chords and which could accommodate the grand staff. I ended up with 4xn and 3xn to choose from. As a test case I used a small piece consisting mostly of four note chords. Initially, I wanted to use 4xn but found it to be really uncomfortable with chords containing seconds. On the other hand 3xn was much better in that respect, moreover the chords were accessible with both hands. The reason for it was that it's very convenient when a chord aligns along a diagonal and they do that in 3xn. The main disadvantage of 3xn is that is less compact than 4xn so one needs flexible hands to play jumps in legato. I'm not a musician on any scale, so I wonder maybe there are some crucial disadvantages that I misse...
