Showing posts with the label Eigenharp: Introduce Yourself

I've been a member here for a while, but I don't think I've introduced myself yet!

I've been a member here for a while, but I don't think I've introduced myself yet! I'm a Literature student, artist, and instrument collector. Music has always been a big part of my life, since it's kind of tradition in my family for every kid to learn to play an instrument. I'm just one of said kids that decided to keep with it. I have a passion for the arts, particularly in how art styles vary between cultures and how they allow people to communicate with and learn about each other. In my case, I enjoy writing, music, and wire sculpting, and I like to experiment with other art forms as well given the opportunity! My grandfather collected instruments, and since my family and I moved in with him while I was young, I had seen and handled (with his permission) a number of instruments in his collection. I was amazed at all the different types of instruments, but a majority of them have been neglected, gathering dust and falling into disrepair. I decided to start my...

This seems to be a nice community, so I think it just fair to introduce myself since I'm going to hang around from time to time. I'm living in Mora, Sweden and it would be nice to get in contact with other eigenharpists in the Nordics. I started out during the early seventies on a Burns London 1965 electric guitar and I'm still playing. Mostly I play a customized Fender Stratocaster. I've been mostly a bedroom player although I've played in a couple of bands throughout the years. Early 2017 I was looking for some new ways to express myself musically, since I wanted to play in a more ambient style. My pedalboard and guitars gave some possibilities, especially with the use of my Eventide pedals. But it wasn't enough. I wanted to do music more like Brian Eno, Harold Budd and Jon Hassel. So I started to look for some new stuff. Since my then ten year old son learning to play keyboard, and I wanted him to keep the keyes to himself and not feel he had to compete with...

Noticing the category for self-introduction.

Noticing the category for self-introduction. Might help provide a bit more context to my query. (After joining the group, noticed that Mark Harris was also telling me about it.) Longterm sax player and ethnomusicologist. Owner of a Yamaha WX11 since the mid-1990s. Born and raised in Montreal but lived in different places, from Lausanne, Switzerland, and Bamako, Mali, to Bloomington, Indiana, Mtoncton, New Brunswick, and Austin, Texas. Bilingual ethnographer, now living in Ottawa, Ontario. Was introduced to electronic music in 1989 at my music school’s “MIDI Studio” where we used an experimentation method based on Brazil’s Samba schools to explore things like Ensoniq EPS, MOTU Performer (before DP), Yamaha DX7, E-mu Proteus, etc. Through friends, kept in touch with this scene for a few years. Eventually played with things like IRCAM’s Max (before MSP), Laurie Spiegel’s Music Mouse, Digidesign Turbosynth, Passport Alchemy (not Camel Audio’s), and Joel Chadabe’s M (before Zicarelli). Was...

I'm the proud owner of a new Tau and am completely in love.

I'm the proud owner of a new Tau and am completely in love. Still learning things. Worked through the tutorial videos, and the somewhat... um... sparse documentation on getting started, but I am up and running, and discovering new possibilities daily. I just wanted to say hi, and thanks for all the information I found via this community. Still struggling with how to do a few things, so I may ask you all a few very dumb questions from time to time, but everyone seems super open, so hopeully you won't laugh too hard if I ask something ridiculous. Great to see such a vibrant community!

Hello all, I am not an Eigenharp owner yet but recently found out about the marvelous instrument and would like to find out more.  I am a software engineer and musician and have been composing digital music for many years.  Having the opportunity to interactively perform the digital music via the Eigenharp is very exciting to me.  I look forward to getting to know all of you and make a final decision on the purchase of one of the Eigenharps.

A Tau of my own has finally come, after sitting in the "when I can afford it" wishlist for years.

Hello, not an Eigenharp owner yet, but I have decided to go cold turkey on new eurorack modules until I can afford a Tau. I work as a software developer and am an amateur musician that makes electronic music together with my wife as "Tic Tic". I've been fascinated by the Eigenharps for a while already and can't wait to get my hands on one. But until my saving account has grown plump I'm just lurking here and finding my way around in eigenD and the source code. Hopefully I'll be able to do modest contributions to the eigenD development somewhere down the line, but for the time being, just getting up to speed on how everything works is more than enough to keep me busy. :)

Happy Valentine's day everyone!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!  Just got my Pico today - super pumped to start playing with it, and to start reading the posts and watching the videos and get down with my eigenharp!

Hi All. Adam here. Just relocated to Berlin. Now picking up my Pico once more.

Hi All. Adam here. Just relocated to Berlin. Now picking up my Pico once more. I am running Windows 7 64, EigenD 2.0.74 & 2.1.0, LoopBe 1.6 Am trying desperately to interface to Ableton 8, but have had absolutely no luck. I do not see any MIDI events from Ableton no matter what I try. Unfortunately most forum posts are Mac centric, or if they are Windows they don't go into detail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Also looking for other Berliners with Eigenharps or details of local meetups. Thanks.

Hi, my name is Joao dos Santos aka astronota.

Hi, my name is Joao dos Santos aka astronota. I'm from Porto, Portugal. I have a Pico since 2010. However because of work reasons never got the time to use it properly, until now! This is a great instrument and I'll have some questions as soon as things will get complicated.   Pleasure to meet you all, cheers!

I'm looking for people that want to do recitals on their instruments locally about once a month.

I'm looking for people that want to do recitals on their instruments locally about once a month. I've recently decided that my amateur status needs a notch up. I've been playing for 48 years and I'm going to start playing more publicly. I want to do guitar concerts, not bars or restaurants. I want to be heard in my small town very close to Raleigh NC. I'm a Java software professional and I'm going to do an AppFuse web application on strong servers as something similar to CraigsList for musicians and listeners to use locally. This app will be hosted on clustered servers and provide free basic accounts to build a community locally and set up recitals, concerts, shows. These performances could be held in someone's home, church, civic league building, anywhere really. The community on the application around the zipcode key could work together to bring about the event. I will try to fund the initial development and hosting for the first year using KickStarter. If...

Hi, I'm Christophe Duquesne, from France

Hi, I'm Christophe Duquesne, from France I'm new here, and not (yet?) a Eigenharp owner. But I'm a Haken Continuum player (and also doing sound design for the Eagan Matrix). I'm also an app developper of SpringSound, a physical modeling synth with special features for the Continuum ( https://itunes.apple.com/app/springsound/id866583243 and  http://www.anckorage.com/spring-sound/ ). I have jus installed EingenD with the help from Mark (who has provided support and a dedicated agent). I now have to investigate how all this can work together !  I'm sure bringing clother Continuum and Eigenharp worlds will be fruitful for both and very rewarding. It's a pleasure to meet you all in this group. https://itunes.apple.com/app/springsound/id866583243

Hi friends of the Eigenharp.

Hi friends of the Eigenharp. I was turned on to the Pico by Randy Brown and am now looking to incorporate the Pico into my live sets. I am quite active in the Chapman Stick community with the Free Hands Academy, but looking forward to tapping into the potential of the Pico. Cheers - Gene

Hi all

Hi all, I'm going to start a new thread since the one I posted to is old, and didn't get replied to. I'm from the south bay area, California, and I'm interested in checking out an Eigenharp in person. If I get one, it'll probably be the Pico to start with, and I'd consider a larger one down the road. If you're in the area, and would be able to give me a demo, let me know, thanks!

Hi, just arrived to the community.

Hi, just arrived to the community. Well, I DONT own an Eigenharp. In fact, I just discovered the existence of this incredible device and I am so excited about it that somehow I had to be here. In the past I have been into many different styles including pop, rock, punk, flamenco, samba, bossa nova, children music, experimental, ambience improvised poetry. I have some material to post if anyone is interested. Just want to learn from you if you agree. Thank you all very much and keep taping.  I am member number 123.  It's funny. Reinon

New pico user here, waiting anxiously to see if my order for an alpha gets filled.

New pico user here, waiting anxiously to see if my order for an alpha gets filled. Been trolling the group for a while...pleasure to meet you all! One question to start...is it possible to connect two harps to a single eigend instance? One crazy thought I had if there aren't enough alpha orders for the build is to get two taus and attach them back to back, which appeals to me as an ewi player used to using my thumbs for octaves and pitch bend.

Hello, I come from Switzerland (Valais).

Hello, I come from Switzerland (Valais). As a musician (guitar and keyboards), the EingenHarp is an instrument that intrigues me and before acquiring one, I want to understand a little more of it.

I've enjoyed visiting this Community off and on, so I feel I know some of you, but I've only just now joined Google+, so I can ask you'all questions! Lots of questions!  I bought my Alpha a year or so ago, just noodled around for about 6 months, and then started formal lessons, with the intent of becoming reasonably proficient at playing other people's (written) compositions.  And to discover how I wanted to change the Alpha's configuration to match my own style.  Now I'm trying to make those changes--and finding it quite frustrating...   feels a lot like chasing the pages from a loose-leaf instruction manual down the road on a windy day....and finding that many of them are written at least partly in a foreign language...  I originally played saxophone, have studied some keyboard and some guitar, but for years my primary instrument has been a Buchla Thunder, driving modeled electronic instruments with strange and wonderful timbres.  I only play for my own amusem...
