Hmm, I have been playing the Tau regularly for, what, three years now? And yesterday I finally realised the strap is for the neck, not the shoulder! :)

I just installed EigenD on my Raspberry Pi running Raspbian Stretch.

I just installed EigenD on my Raspberry Pi running Raspbian Stretch. I'm no linux guy, so to help other newbies I made a suggestion for updated rPI install instructions: 4.5 - Linux (ARM) Installing on Raspbian Stretch PREPARATIONS Copy "EigenD-gpl-2.1.7-community-arm.deb" and "linux_eigend.sh.txt" to a memory stick. Rename "linux_eigend.sh.txt" to "linux_eigend.sh". INSTALLING Plug the memory stick into the Raspberry. It should be mounted automatically with the path "/media/pi/(name of stick)". To install EigenPi, type "cd /media/pi/(name of stick)" and then "sudo dpkg -i EigenD-gpl-2.1.7-community-arm.deb". EigenD should now reside in /usr/local/pi/release-2.1.7-community Copy the startup script linux_eigend.sh to the EigenD folder by typing "sudo cp /media/pi/(name of stick)/linux_eigend.sh /usr/local/pi/release-2.1.7-community". Set some file access rights needed by EigenD by typing "sudo chmod...

I just had a look at Audio Damage Quanta, a new granular MPE soft-synth.

I just had a look at Audio Damage Quanta, a new granular MPE soft-synth. First impressions are good. Logical UI and very easy to get useful results. There is a demo version as well. https://www.audiodamage.com/collections/plugin-instruments/products/ad046-quanta https://www.audiodamage.com/collections/plugin-instruments/products/ad046-quanta

Anyone know if I can set channel on a wire from belcanto?

Anyone know if I can set channel on a wire from belcanto? I prefer typing up my setups in belcanto to using workbench, but I don’t know how to do that. Also, can I set midi device in a midi output agent from belcanto? I’d like to toggle between two devices with a talker.

Since there isn't that many Eigenharpists around, I think it would be nice to meet some of you to chat over a beer or three, perhaps jam a bit, learn from each others, etc. Would there be interest in some kind of meetup sometime, say, in the autumn? I'm thinking something simple, like booking a conference room for a weekend at a hotel somewhere in Europe that is easy to get to for most of us, and then plan some Eigenharp/music related stuff to do while there. Just a thought. If there is interest I guess I can try to arrange something.

Just saw this on synthtopia.

Just saw this on synthtopia. Admittedly I haven't looked properly on what the module actually does yet. Apparently, eurorack and MPE in the same sentence is enough for me to get excited. :) http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2017/08/24/percussa-super-signal-processor-eurorack-module-adds-mpe-support/

My wife and I have just released our debut EP as "Tic Tic".

My wife and I have just released our debut EP as "Tic Tic". The Eigenharp has been used a lot on all but one track. We feel it "softenes up" our electro pop sound nicely. Makes things sound more human, I guess. The rest is an Octatrack, Analog Four, Electribe MX and a modular. We've just started looking at how to perform this live and the Tau will be an even more important part in that setting. So I'm practicing playing a lot these days. Getting better, but, oh, so slowly.... http://www.straightupworld.com/releases/tic-tic-where-do-we-go-ep/ http://www.straightupworld.com/releases/tic-tic-where-do-we-go-ep/

I've run into an issue I'm unable to solve.

I've run into an issue I'm unable to solve. If I load a setup in EigenD, everything is fine. BUT, if I then open up Workbench I get a blinking green light within a minute or so. It also happens if I load MainStage after starting EigenD. However, If I first load MainStage, and don't switch patches or open Workbench, it works. Community release 2.1.2 on OSX 10.11.6. I have tried to reinstall EigenD and remove all my setups, etc. All I need to do to get the error is to load a blank setup, open workbench and add the alpha manager. If I wait a minute or so it will fail. To make things even stranger, the Tau default setup don't appear to have this issue. I can load that setup and open both workbench and MainStage without getting the light. I am all out of ideas. I was working on a new setup when this started happening. But my "old" setup I haven't touched in months have the same problem. As far as I know I have not made any changes on my mac in quite some time, ...

I bought an "Xtorm AL390" battery on Amazon recently.

I bought an "Xtorm AL390" battery on Amazon recently. It arrived today, and naturally I tried it with the Eigenharp. It appears to work without any issues. I had my Tau running on battery power for 1,5 hours and the battery still showed 3 out of 4 LEDs of juice left. So since my laptop would be out of power before the Eigenharp I didn't bother test any longer. The battery is aprox. the size and weight of an ipad mini (but thicker) and has a normal european 230V AC outlet in addition to two USB power outlets. When in use, it makes a quite annoying noise. Not loud, but it got on my nerves in an otherwise quiet room. Outdoors, or tucked away in a padded bag or something I doubt it would be noticeable. Other than that I got a good impression of it. I tried to power both my Elektron boxes from it, and that appeared to work, too.

Am I the only one struggling with "dead" notes?

Am I the only one struggling with "dead" notes? When playing, sometimes a note isn't playing and I don't understand why. It happens whether I play Aalto via OSC or some synth via midi. When using midi, no data is transmitted for that key until I release it and press it again. I have yet to see any pattern to what is causing it.

I'm unfamiliar with T3D/OSC and haven't been able to figure out how to set it up.

I'm unfamiliar with T3D/OSC and haven't been able to figure out how to set it up. I have Mark Harris' T3D agent in my setup and Kaivo hosted in MainStage. But how do I make them communicate?

Hmm, I need some Mac advice.

Hmm, I need some Mac advice. I've been meaning to get one for running EigenD and suitable soft synths, but keep postponing buying it because of limited funds and, well, eurorack. ;)  Do anyone know if a 4GB i5 1.66GHz MacBook Air will be sufficient for EigenD, Aalto and Kaivo? I have no other plans for this machine than the Eigenharp, so I'm looking for something that will work reliably and hassle-free for this specific purpose only.

Mark Harris, is building a Community 2.1.2 version of EigenPi difficult?

Mark Harris, is building a Community 2.1.2 version of EigenPi difficult? That midi channel selection bug in 2.1.1 is giving me some issues...

I was messing about with with my toys when this sort of emerged.

I was messing about with with my toys when this sort of emerged. I thought it'd make a nice demo of how I use the Eigenharp, so I asked my wife to film it. The main keys plays an Analog Four pad, the perc keys an AM-modulated percussive sound on the A4. Breath  controls the modular via one of the A4 CV outs. The Octatrack mangle the incoming audio in various ways. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjbaKxIsoM4

I have added a strummer to my setup and want to mute all courses by slapping the perc keys below the four strumming keys with the back of my strumming hand. The plan was to be able to play rhythmically the way I'm used to on a guitar. Since strummer breath can mute all courses,  I tried to connect the key pressure from my "slap mute"  perc keys to a ranger and then to strummer breath input. But that didn't do anything. If I connect key pressure -> strum breath it works if I touch the keys lightly. But when I send it through the ranger it doesn't. So I'm guessing I don't understand how ranger works. I would have thought  "minum 0, max 0.1" would have resulted in a signal truncated at 0.1 and therefore always below the mute threshold. Perhaps this isn't even a good plan? Is there a better way to achieve this?

I've just looked at the midi output in poly mode and noticed channels didn't get selected the way I was expecting.

I've just looked at the midi output in poly mode and noticed channels didn't get selected the way I was expecting. Example: Channel range 1-3 and a note sustained on channel 1. I then play some staccato notes. The first gets channel 2, the next 3. So far so good. But then I'd expect channel 2 to be selected next as this is now the oldest, unused channel. Instead I get channel 1, which is already in use. Is this behaviour intended? I'm on the community release, btw.

I received the Tau a couple of days ago.

I received the Tau a couple of days ago. To my disappointment I'm not the natural born Eigenharp virtuoso I suspected I was. :( Anyways, so far I've been mostly busy integrating the Tau with my hardware based setup. Not sure if the following is of interest to anyone, but since I'm in the honeymoon stage with my new instrument and dying to talk about it you guys have just ended up at the receiving end of it: My impression so far is that the Elektron Analog Four appears to be a pretty good partner for the Eigenharp. For those that aren't familiar with it, it is a small, 4 voice analog desktop synth tightly integrated with a powerful step sequencer. The synth engine itself is decent, but in itself not all that exciting. It is in combination with the sequencer that it really shines. But it has a couple of unusual features that might be of interest to Eigenharpists. One of them is that it has four configurable CV outputs. I set them up to respond to pitch, modwheel, aftertou...

I'm no Linux person, but I've been messing with a Raspberry Pi 2 for a couple of days now. Lots of fun! Naturally I tried to get EigenPi running on it (I have yet to receive my Tau, but still, no harm in being prepared). My SD Card is being picky with OSes, Raspbian being one of few that works. But I'm guessing that isn't what I should use for EigenPi as it is telling me I have the wrong version of libstdc++6. So before I go buy a new card, which OS should I use for it?

Hello, not an Eigenharp owner yet, but I have decided to go cold turkey on new eurorack modules until I can afford a Tau. I work as a software developer and am an amateur musician that makes electronic music together with my wife as "Tic Tic". I've been fascinated by the Eigenharps for a while already and can't wait to get my hands on one. But until my saving account has grown plump I'm just lurking here and finding my way around in eigenD and the source code. Hopefully I'll be able to do modest contributions to the eigenD development somewhere down the line, but for the time being, just getting up to speed on how everything works is more than enough to keep me busy. :)
