Late May #eigenchallenge2014 entry. A rendition of "We have all the time in the world" on the Pico.

Late May #eigenchallenge2014  entry.  A rendition of "We have all the time in the world" on the Pico.   Somewhat imperfect (!) musically, but possibly of interest technically:  there are a lot of accidentals in the second half, and the Pico doesn't have enough keys to play this in chromatic mode. So, I've used the both the 'roll' and 'yaw' of the keys to send pitch-bend messages, but with different gains.  This means I can pull/push the key all the way to one side to get a full semitone of pitch-bend for the accidentals, but still 'wobble' it in the more natural direction for vibrato.  As you can hear, the technique still needs some practise, but it shows promise I think!  (The instrument is Sample Modelling's Tenor sax again) https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/we-have-all-the-time-in-the-world

May is nearly gone, so here is my Spring offering:

May is nearly gone, so here is my Spring offering: I know, I said I wasn't going to do another piano piece, and it wasn't going to be*... but then Pianoteq 5 was released, so I couldn't help myself. This time to be a bit different, Ive used the new K2 piano model which is an entirely new model for PT5.  Played in chromatic mode on horizontal layout with 2 splits, and you can see scale illuminator lighting my path for a minor scale, and with breath pipe for sustain pedal. Im not going to say what Im going to do next month... as it never works out the way I plan anyway! * I actually have been doing quite alot of experimenting, which will appear sooner or later! #EigenChallenge2014 #Eigenharp http://youtu.be/xStoAHZnMrE

The merry month of May.

The merry month of May. so a new month, a new challenge. This month inspired by the talks at moogfest by Geert Bevin and Roger, I'm going to try and focus on sounds using the Eigenharps expression.  (I've been dodging this with the Piano :))  In particular looking at the tools I have, to use 3d control & more. So the last couple of days, Ive busy with the following: - Virus TI, look at creating multi timbral patches voice per channel, using direct CC control and the mod matrix each mapped to 3 CC & breath/strip controls - Reaktor, how to make voice per channel work in Reaktor. Ive got a 'prototype' macro that nearly works, it replaces the 'normal' midi gate/pitch/control/pitchbend... instead doing its own midi channel to voice mapping with a poly output.  Looks promising so far, idea is that you can dump it into any ensemble/instrument and easily rewire it to get voice per channel behaviour - given the huge number of Reaktor synths out there, the potenti...

For April #EigenChallenge2014 bit of an improv from me.

For April #EigenChallenge2014 bit of an improv from me. More of an idea than a completed track, so apologies for the repetition. As I continue to play things Ive done over past few months, Im starting to think each has some ideas... and that perhaps in the end I will be able to combine some of these to make one more complete track. Next month, I need to move away from Pianoteq... get some variation, but I just love its sound so much :) https://soundcloud.com/thetechnobear/arping-on-an-arp-in-april-improv

After much fun to date with #eigenchallenge2014 I've splashed out on both Workbench and Omnisphere.

After much fun to date with #eigenchallenge2014 I've splashed out on both Workbench and Omnisphere. It's by turns fun and frustrating - like learning to program in a new domain with a new language. The learning curve includes MIDI and related audio things. MIDI seems to be very rudimentary, at least by today's standards. It seems you can't change the volume of a note after you've hit it without attaching extra parameters. Very poor for violin/clarinet type playing. And similar small frustrations and lack of knowledge are making for slow progress - e.g. trying to understand channels in Workbench. My musical contribution to April's challenge will be modest at best. But it's all educational...

For March #EigenChallenge2014 , apologises to Beethoven for my attempt at Fur Elise.

For March #EigenChallenge2014  , apologises to Beethoven for my attempt at Fur Elise.  Whilst I can play all parts on their own, once the video camera goes on, I always fluff one bit or another.. ho hum, anyway Im continuing to work on this, so hopefully I can come back to it later and see how much Ive improved :)  * its abridged, Ive not played repeats, to reduce the pain for listeners :)  #Eigenharp   #FurElise   #EigenChallenge2014   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwBuMtXrn6M%5DFur

My attempt for February for the #EigenChallenge2014

My attempt for February for the #EigenChallenge2014   A departure from what I planned, as I wanted to do something with the Orange Tree Samples Evolution Guitar... after learning to play the Spanish Romance, which sounds so wonderful with it. http://youtu.be/QKM-6RMVAjQ

#EigenChallenge2014 - February, go go go...

#EigenChallenge2014  - February, go go go... Great to see all the entries for January, more for Feb? ... remember doesn't matter if you haven't submitted before, just join in the fun this month. This month Im focusing on layering as its a skill id love to have. Ive already started using Live 9 and the Pico (with OscPad), and will probably continue as long as I don't get too distracted by #Numerology   any one working on ideas yet? or just going to see what crops up? either way, good way to have fun and enjoy making some music.

Here's my offering for the #EigenChallenge2014 (January).

Here's my offering for the #EigenChallenge2014 (January). The tune featured in an episode the children's TV programme Bagpuss, which I used to watch, and which my daughter still enjoys. Pico in factory default. https://soundcloud.com/niksilver/the-millers-song

Alpha + Pico

Image
Alpha + Pico An idea Ive been playing with for the February #EigenChallenge2014 . Attaching my Pico to the harness for use as a controller for Ableton Live (using OscPad agent)... at the moment its just a bit of fun, but actually worked surprisingly well.   (the ball joint of the harness keeps the alpha from fouling the pico)

A simple offering from a novice for #EigenChallenge2014 :)

A simple offering from a novice for #EigenChallenge2014 :) Andante in C by Carulli from my son's classical guitar book.  Played on a Pico (so slightly tweaked to avoid using the octave keys).  Who wants to play "guess the VST"? https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/andante-in-c https://soundcloud.com/mijiti/andante-in-c

A short piece for the Eigenharp

A short piece for the Eigenharp http://youtu.be/YAjM8TakhtY my attempt for January for the #EigenChallenge2014 . my first attempt at something different, so quite short and simple, just my Alpha, my Virus TI and I having fun :) http://youtu.be/YAjM8TakhtY

#EigenChallenge2014 - the game is on...

#EigenChallenge2014   - the game is on... Ive created two threads over at eigenlabs, one for entries and one for discussion over at eigenlabs.com . Would be great to get as many people involved as possible, and show the world that we all use our Eigenharps :o)  Game on... entries can be submitted any time during the month, and as many as you want - and don't forget to cross post here at G+ in your music too. ... so now I have to get cracking, to make sure I can get something half decent in 3 weeks.
