I know there's a couple Trillian users here.

I know there's a couple Trillian users here.  Odd thing, Trillian works fine when loaded as an AU in a DAW, e.g.: Live.  But when I load it as an AU in eigenD, it plays all right for a few seconds or so and then stops playing.  I can see the note ons being accepted in Trillian (flashing light sin the track numbers at top of Trillian window). Thought it was a corrupted install, I get the same behavior on both my iMac and MBP. Have you had to do any special config in Trillian to get things working well in eigenD? Odd thing, I also have Omnisphere and it has performed flawlessly. TIA

plg_audio (1.4) ported to 2.1 branch :o)  see http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1298/ had a few beers last night to celebrate success I was having with my agent, when I got back decide to port the open sourced version (1.4) of plg_audio to 2.1, only took about 30 mins :) there is a small limitation (see thread on eigenlabs), which I wil resolve  if others use - but its really a non issue. fork is available on: https://github.com/TheTechnobear/EigenD my easy to follow instructions on how to build your own version of eigenD are here: http://myeigenharp.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/open-source-is-a-wonderful-thing/   Enjoy.... now back to agent building

I also toyed with the MIDI Routing Matrix today.  Set up a nice aftertouch crescendo on a pad.   It took me awhile to get the settings just right, as I didn't want too much crescendo and didn't want the sound to fade too much either. Take a look below for example of what I did:

I tweaked a couple of my native setups today, removing items from the seth that were not necessary to the song I will be using it for.  Good results in load time. On one, a Pico setup, I reduced load time from 35 seconds to 16 seconds.  On another, a Tau setups, I reduced load time from 75 seconds to 35 seconds. I could probably lose more time on the Pico by removing the Drummer rig, but I'm satisfied with the load time. In the process, I saved these to a new category: "Set"  These are for mini-performances I have coming up.  So "Set" seemed like a good tag.

It's still a work-in-progress, but for the benefit of Randy Brown and anyone else who's interested, here's a quick (very rough) demo of my work on the Eigenharp Ableton control surface script.  It's currently dependent on a very Heath Robinson modification to the Midi Input agent, so not published just yet, but once I've tidied things up I intend to properly issue it so that others can use/amend to their hearts' content. Because I've had to use the built-in Macbook webcam for now, the Eigenharp is shown sideways on, but essentially each of the five columns on the Alpha represent a track in Live.  Rows 1-6 mirror the clips that have focus (determined by the 5x6 blue box on the Live screen, which can be moved from the Alpha).  Row 7 allows each track to be turned on/off, 8 allows each track to be solo'd, 9 allows each to be armed for record.  It's multi-touch, so you can arm/solo multiple tracks by clicking several buttons at once.  Also any changes in...

arghhh... getting fed up with eigend keymaps :o(

arghhh... getting fed up with eigend keymaps :o(  two issues: a) if you put a mapping on main, and then put another  mapping on a KG connected to it basically ignores it! (try if you wish, in the pico demo in creator, put a mapping on main and see what happens!) b) if you try to add a KG even when the mapping is not on the parent, it sometimes gets ignored (in the pico demo in creator see what happens with the octave KG)  yes, I know it seems to work in tau setups, but if you try to repeat it causes an issue (or at least it does with the pico ?!) the later is seems to be a bug with belcanto, as if i do exactly the same in WB it works. im wondering if the former is the same bug. any ideas anyone? (last time i mentioned it to eigenlabs it was ignored) EDIT: Geert Bevin spotted mistake in my belcanto for the octave issue (b) - thanks :o)     ... (a) I will take a look at again when a bit more patient :o)

Spent tonight figuring out new music and this was the result.

Spent tonight figuring out new music and this was the result.  I needed a way of remembering where I had the chords and the e'harp setup for them.  After cleaning a screenshot of the pico in the quick start guide, I printed it as a photo sheet and could then colour in the keys that make each chord.  I've included the cleaned up image for those wanting to do the same or even make improvements.  Lines for writing on would help, but would have required a little more work than should be put in at 1:30 am. Anybody want to take a solo on a version of Maiden Voyage? Originally shared by Tim Roberts Was noodling around on Maiden Voyage for a while tonight and have the chordal and bass parts down.  Tomorrow will see me making use of fingerer and maybe, just maybe a recording.

In a MIDI setup I am working on.

In a MIDI setup I am working on. pitch bend does not function the same as with other, Factory or Experimental setups that include MIDI.  By this I mean, I have to explicitly enable pitch wheel in the MIDI ROUTER. Looking at the setup, it seems pitch bend is wired in all the right places. Any thoughts on what may not be set correctly?

Hoping the combined intellect here can help me out.

Hoping the combined intellect here can help me out. After advice given here I'm looking at Mac Minis for Eigenharp use as an alternative to making a Hackintosh. The current plan is to make a makeshift rack in which to put the mini, eigenharp base and any other necessary hardware items and have them all pre-wired just to carry around. I plan to operate the mini via a tablet or touch sensitive screen (haven't quite worked this part out yet, but I think I prefer that to having a laptop).  I want a machine that I can load up with VSTs etc and will run without any drama whatever. I also may want to record into Garageband or similar if I feel like it. So a couple of questions arise for those with Mac/Eigenharp experience: 1 - Is there a minimum spec recommended for the cpu/memory? Obviously "as much as you can", but I wonder if 16GB RAM is much better than 8GB - my previous experience of Macs leads me to believe they are memory-hungry. 2 - Does SSD make much difference in u...

The meaning of Decimation

The meaning of Decimation  A continuation from Erik Fichtner thread, but I didnt want to hijack it further. and I think its an interesting topic for anyone that uses AUs. Because we might mention times, lets get a few things into perspective, the Eigenharp is 10bit resolution, and 2000samples/second. i.e. a sample every 0.5ms Therefore the minimum 10ms decimation, potentially drops 20 messages. Also, if we assume 120 bpm, then a 1/32 note, is ~15ms so a 30ms decimation ~ 1/16 note @120bpm Now first interesting point, is why is decimation not quantization? by this i means, why is it not based on clock tempo?  (the misalignment of time, will mean you get events coming thru out of sync with clock) Next, I had a quick look at the code, as far as I can tell in midi_from_belcanto, is it doesnt quite work as 'described'. what it does is always sends immediately the first value, then won't send subsequent values until the decimation time has passed. (hence you dont get latency effe...

I'm still stuck in deciding whether to perform these couple of events coming up using native EigenD setups running AUs, recorders, ect. or a simple 1 channel MIDI setup played/recorded into Luve and controlled with the FCB1010. For the pieces I want to play, I haven't been able to come up with a native setup that will work. Too many different AUs and patches and other requirements. I can have what I need with the MIDI/Live/FCB combo. But with that, I'm stompin' the foot peddle a lot for my changes. I really like. Being able to have all of the settings I need on the harp - seamless during performance. Just haven't been able to produce the setup that is capable and reliable. Quandary...

Odd question of the day:  The "minimum midi decimation" setting, from inside Midi Converter n's routing matrix settings window..... where does that exist inside Workbench?  I'm trying to find it inside the Midi Rig, but ... doesn't look like it's there...  am I just missing it?    I would like to be able to set this via belcanto, as I'm discovering that I need to change this value to avoid stuck notes and other glitches in various levels of midi poly mode on some synth hardware.... it'd be nice to bake this change into my patch preset script....

FXExpansion VST/AU or Plogue Bidule?

FXExpansion VST/AU or Plogue Bidule? Thanks to +António Machado Ive been messing with the NeuronVS, and been pretty impressed so far! The issue is the VST cannot be hosted in EigenD, due to some versioning issue, but it can be wrapped by FXExpansion or Bidule. Ive played with Bidule and it does look very interesting, and might be quite useful for other things im doing that need some configuration, so a useful extra tool.  Is there any reason to use FXExpansion instead? which seems to be limited to the one task? Also, does anyone know how both/either handle delay compensation?

Interesting thing happened:

Interesting thing happened: Instrument: Alpha Had 2 or 3 drum loops playing. Had recorded 2 AUs.  Started playing clarinet. Lights on instrument went out, clarinet sound stopped. When I stopped playing the clarinet, loops and recorded tracks continued. I've been able to reproduce this in the same Factory setup (5 split).  Did not yet try with another setup. Glitch, weather, lunar, or other idea? TIA

I've been contemplating a dedicated machine for my eigenharp, mainly because I hate the way my laptop with Windows 7 works with it. I've been wanting to build a hackintosh for a while and I've been looking at the Intel NUC boxes - specifically the Intel Next Unit of Computing Kit DC3217BY - Core i3 3217U 1.8 GHz Barebone. Anyone know if such a machine would be powerful enough for Eigenharp?

Happy Sunday, all.

Happy Sunday, all. Funny problem I'm having: Setting lights using Belcanto works for keygroup 1 but not for two others I have in a setup. Triple checked everything. Building setup with "creator". Terminal reports no errors. I even made a user script and ran it with Eigenbrowser. It reported that it ran successfully. Any ideas?

Multiple Audio agents?

Multiple Audio agents?  Ok, silly question of the day :) Id like to take an input from an audio interface, and send it to macs audio output (on audio 1) - but cannot do it!?  I thought the way to do this, would be to create a new audio agent (audio 2) ,  and then link it to the audio interface, and takes its inputs and then feed them into the mixer, which would then outputs to audio 1, which outputs to mac. but workbench, doesn't allow me to create a second audio agent. (we dont have source for audio agent, so I cannot check to see whats going on!) Obviously I cannot change audio 1, to the audio interface, because if I do then the output is to that audio interface. I probably can workaround using Jack OSX, DAWs etc, but Im seeing how far I can get with just EigenD... as I like to minimise the apps in use... and I like pushing EigenD :o) side note: I wondered how the alpha did this with the mic, but it looks like the alpha hardware exposes this directly, rather than thru an audio in...

Hoping someone can give me a whack to the side of the head:

Hoping someone can give me a whack to the side of the head: Using 'creator', I create a keygroup, populated it with a keymap, then created octave toggle and recorder toggle keys in the row of keys directly beneath the keymapped keys.  Example: on the Alpha, a full keygroup is mapped from 1-22 keys.  I created the octave and recorder toggle keys in row 23. Why is  it that when I press the octave or recorder keys, the instrument assigned to the keygroup plays?  There aren't any playable keys assigned to row 23. A puzzle.

Audio Unit (VST) - multiple midi channels, only one instance of plugin.

Audio Unit (VST) - multiple midi channels, only one instance of plugin. Ok, so usually an audio unit will send midi data directly to a VST on a given midi channel (or multiple if you use poly midi thing) - basically as AU agent converts key events etc to midi. BUT  what Id like to to is to do a split in eigenD, and send to the same VST on different midi channel (i.e. 1 for top split, 2 for bottom split) . Usually, Id do this by using multiple instances of AU agent, and load same VST` (i.e. use to AU rigs) BUT I cant  only have one instance of this VST, so cannot do this. I notice that the audio unit agent has a midi input, I was hoping therefore, I could use a normal midi converter (e.g. like a midi rig), and then send in multiple inputs.  I tried ( a little bit) and it didn't work, anyone know if it should, in which case I will try harder... or is this is definitely not going to work?  or shall i go check the source code :)

Reaktor 5 for $99/€99 (till 20 June) , sounds tempting.

Reaktor 5 for $99/€99 (till 20 June) , sounds tempting.  ( http://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/freedom-of-sound/ ) Last year, there was a summer sale, which allowed crossgrades to Komplete. So IF they repeat might be able to get a bargain on Komplete too.  Opinions on Reaktor? looks quite powerful.

I'd like to set up my Pico so that the cello can be bowed by the bottom right scroll-key - ideally with the bow pressure mapped to the pressure on that key instead of the pressure on the note that's being fingered (I don't quite understand how that's supposed to work, how do you do a proper legato when the bow "lifts off" between notes?).  I could also then map the strip to pitch bend to do proper cello-y slides :) Is this task a small amount of belcanto to figure out or am I better off waiting until I can afford Workbench? Thanks!

Mark Harris , António Machado et al: I'm in need of some recorder scripts.

Mark Harris , António Machado et al: I'm in need of some recorder scripts.  I've trued using the scripts that are within Factory setups, but they make use of a variable, which I can't find.  I've also tried entering the number of bars to record as '8 bar record' in a complete Belcanto statement, but can't get a recording. I've created a metronome and started it prior to running the recorder scripts, but am not having luck. Anyone have working scripts or can give me a pointer about what I may be missing? Thanks.

Here are links to my conf and basic setup file I used to create the 6AU/1MIDI/3Splits setup using Mark Harris 's fantastic command line setup builder. http://carvingcode.net/eigenharp/6au1midi3splits.html http://carvingcode.net/eigenharp/my_basicsetup.html I populated the various splits using a set of template files I built from the Alpha factory setups.  (Also have them for Tau at moment.)  I sent those to Mark earlier and will wait for him to add them to the repository. The setup is just about right.  Some function keys are not getting placed where they should.  Easily fixed with Workbench. Thought any of you looking into this might be interested.

modular setup builder v 0.2

modular setup builder v 0.2 Next version is here,  thanks to +Randy Brown Ive also fixed some other issues, with channels & key groups, and hopefully got the alpha key mapping correct :) main change is to structure things, such that configs are easier to create with device independence (i.e. same for all types of harps) now to create setups use: bin/createsetup.sh pico|tau|alpha conf/configfile.conf e.g. bin/createsetup.sh pico conf/basicaudiounit.conf other changes: - comments are now supported in config files, so you can describe that they do. - up to 9 parameters can now be passed to templates - added link midi, for midi output creation, example config provided - added looper rig and associated scripts, example config provided template processing changes for devices : the templates are now processed as follows, a line such as: basicsetup.bc: basicsetup.bc will be looked in the top level (common) directly and executed. then it will look in the device subdirectory for the same fil...

I recall someone (Geert Bevin I think?) recommending Harrison Mixbus as a good audio-only recording solution a few months ago.  I won't be using it myself as I'm 100% Ableton-based these days, but for anyone who's tempted it's currently on offer at $39 at DontCrack.com.  I've bought from them before and they've always been excellent, plus it's electronic delivery, so no issue with it being in the US.

Raw key mappings for Tau and Alpha

Raw key mappings for Tau and Alpha Does anyone have some kind of documentation on the basic key mappings for the tau and alpha. (i.e. before they go through any transitions) e.g. are the main keys 1, 1 -> 1, 120 & 1,1 -> 1, 72? top row functions keys 2,1 -> 2,4 ? lower function keys ?  percussion keys? for the modular setups, Id like to build for all models, but as I dont know the mapping its a bit tricky to come up with sensible defaults. (would be useful to know the default physical and musical mappings)

Modular setups in belcanto

Modular setups in belcanto I  mentioned yesterday I was brewing something up, well the prototype is now complete... so now you can start brewing too :) Something for pico, tau and alpha owners alike, and also for non-programmers too! Do you want to be able to create setups from scratch, that have just what you want in them, no more, no less?  Want to be able to develop them, and use them across you various harps (pico, tau, alpha) Well I do... so Ive started a small project on my github for what I call modular setups. Basic ideas is belcanto scripts that are device neutral, and that can be combined in any way you want to, to create a particular setup. (this is building upon ideas from picomix, and rig creation) My first example is very simple, and shows how its done for a pico  (note: it is NOT pico specific) How it works: there is a script (imaginatively called createsetup), and you pass it a configuration file which details what 'modules' you want created in your setup. Usage...
