I have a question...

I have a question... I am working toward a new live rig incorporating a modular synth and an Akai MPC, with everything hooked together mostly via (non-USB) MIDI. I'm interested in the possibility of playing the modular from the Eigenharp, but haven't had much luck with old-fashioned MIDI out from my M-Audio/Avid interface, though I was using Ableton which is notoriously bad at this. What's the best way to do low-as-possible latency/jitter old skool MIDI out from my Tau? Thank you in advance!

By popular request, this is a live recording of my performance at City of Refuge UCC in Oakland on Saturday. The story behind it is that Gina Pond's new church start-up project, Between The Worlds, was doing an Easter Saturday vigil service. She unwittingly asked me to provide the music. I think what I did was about as far from what people normally ever hear in that church (i.e., Grammy winning professional grade gospel!) that you can probably get. Anyway, this is genuinely a live recording, straight from the mixing desk, just a bit of mastering, so what you're hearing is exactly what I was playing. It's all live, improvised, no backing tracks, no sampled phrases, played real-time on an Eigenharp Tau. Synthesis was via Ableton Live, MAX, Battery and Reaktor running on a Macbook Pro. The bass solos were played live on the Eigenharp, with the sound coming from the Trilium VST plugin. It's long, moderately demanding, and is best listened to by telling your brain to shut up...

Hi folks

Hi folks, Just a heads up. I'm going to be performing live Eigenharp in Oakland a week from tomorrow (Saturday April 19th from noon until 3pm). The venue is City of Refuge UCC, 8400 Enterprise Way, Oakland CA. My other half, Gina Pond is taking over City of Refuge UCC in Oakland on the Saturday afternoon of Easter weekend. Her blurb for the event is here: http://btwchurch.wordpress.com/2014/04/09/holy-saturday-service-april-19-12-3-pm-at-city-of-refuge-ucc/ On my (Mage of Machines) side, I'll be performing live Eigenharp for (nearly) 3 hours, and hopefully recording a live album in the process. I'll be doing my usual weird combination of looping, generative music and live improvisation. The event is part ritual, part meditation, part music, with the idea that people can drop in and out anywhere within the three hours. I'll be playing cycles of one hour, but being my usual self I'm unlikely to repeat myself, so I'll aim to put together a recording by editing toge...

Hi Folks

Hi Folks, I've just emerged from finishing the mastering on my second album (The Descent), so I've had a chance to do some Eigenharping recently. I'm performing a couple of pieces tomorrow in a church in Berkeley CA -- while I was practicing tonight, I recorded a couple of quick demos and uploaded them to Soundcloud. Both were played live, no overdubbing, using the Eigenharp controlling Ableton Live via MIDI. Sounds are coming from a combination of Ableton's instruments, Reaktor, FM8 and Kontakt. The bass guitar on Alpha is from the awesome Trillium library. I've been experimenting with using a single momentary footswitch, set up so that when I jump on it it puts me in 'solo' mode, and when I release it I'm in 'chords' mode. It took quite a bit of detailed tweaking, but with a bit of practice it's quite possible to play chords with solo answering phrases quite intuitively. Anyway, I hope you like these. :-) https://soundcloud.com/sarah-thomps...

By the way, I did a video for my Eigenharp track. I just thought some of you might like it.

By the way, I did a video for my Eigenharp track. I just thought some of you might like it. As an aside, I've had two bogus claims made via YouTube from other people claiming that my music was theirs. I'm fighting it, but seriously not pleased -- in the mean time, I have a 'buy it now' link for someone else's completely unrelated track. I suspect it's due to automated matching picking up the NASA audio sample (which is very definitely public domain). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rdH5zxKNC8

My first ever Eigenharp track is now on Soundcloud! I'm very pleased with it:

I'm very pleased with it: https://soundcloud.com/sarah-thompson-30/apollo Details are in the comments on Soundcloud, but basically this is all real-time in one take. PS: Sorry I missed the hangout this morning. I forgot to set my alarm and just woke up when it was over (west coast US). https://soundcloud.com/sarah-thompson-30/apollo

I have a question.

I have a question. I'm trying to set up something complicated in Ableton Live, and I'd like to use the percussion keys to trigger loops. Basically, what I'd really like to be able to do is set up a third MIDI channel (could be a second channel on one of the two existing interfaces), and disable all controller output from the percussion keys. The problem I'm having currently is that I can't actually set up a key to trigger something because the controller data is immediately stamping on my attempt to set up the trigger in Live. Any ideas? I'm very new to Workbench (and Eigenharp, for that matter), so I'm jut getting started here. I know Live pretty well, however.

Hi all

Hi all, I'm new here. I just took delivery of a Tau a few days ago and am currently still in the middle of the 'OMG this thing is awesome' honeymoon period. Apparently I'm starting to sound more like me, so that's not bad after a few days. Anyway, my background was originally keyboards (originally originally Hammond organ, then various synths in the 70s courtesy my father, I wasn't very old at the time). Then bass, then chapman stick, then percussion, and now Eigenharp. By profession I'm an engineer, occasionally a sound engineer, live and in the studio on and off over the years, but currently I'm actually doing software and electronics for spacecraft at NASA Ames. Music always remains an obsession, however. I'm currently building a rig for my Eigenharp, which will be in a 4U portable rack containing an external hard drive, USB hub, audio interface, DMX interface and a little 1U submixer. The idea is to be able to plug in either to my studio rig (bas...
