Mark Harris et.al.

Mark Harris et.al . I'm having problems installing the new EigenD 2.1.7 on my Win10 machine(s). I first tried on my main desktop, which has been running Community 2.1.1 rock solid since its release (thank you, Mark!). I not only couldn't get it to load, afterwards 2.1.1 and 2.0.74 also stopped working. (After my attempt to install 2.1.7, Revo Uninstaller showed every instance of EigenD as if it was a new install, so it appears the 2.1.7 installer makes changes to all previously installed versions....) Looks like the 2.1.7 install stalled as it searched for VST plug ins. I have many, and some are flaky, so.... Then I tried an install on a brand new Win 10 machine which had only a single VST installed. Install stalled in exactly same location. (Didn't freeze machine, just stopped making progress.) Waited several hours. Attached below see screen shot and also photo of the install window progress text. As this was a clean install, I first installed most recent Windows ...

A question about EigenD compatibility with Windows 10.

A question about EigenD compatibility with Windows 10. I'm thinking about upgrading to 10 on my major desktop machine, but before I do, I updated a less-used laptop, on which I would occasionally run EigenD. After utilizing the automatic upgrade process, the update did automatically transfer EigenD 2.074 to the new OS. The base EigenD program, Eigenbrowser, Stage, and Workbench all load properly, and seem to run properly. However, EigenD does not shut down properly. I.e., the sub-programs close, and the menu bar disappears from the main EigenD window, but the rest of that window does not vanish, and if you subsequently click on the EigenD desktop icon, you get an error message saying that an instance of EigenD is already running and must be closed.... (Yes, I know that you always have to use the File-->Quit sequence to get EigenD to close in Windows, as clicking on the corner 'X' just reduces it to the taskbar. Under Windows 10, the program does not close complet...

OK--I'm willing to pay (well) for the help I need configuring my Alpha. See if I can tempt you.

OK--I'm willing to pay (well) for the help I need configuring my Alpha.  See if I can tempt you. One of the very best things about the Eigenharps is that they were intended, conceptually and from the ground up to be uniquely configurable and customizable. And so I purchased an Alpha, and have had it something more than two years. After a period of intense exploration, I have spent over a year and a half (with lots of interruptions!) trying to develop my dream customization.  I've been following the work first of the original Eigenlab trainers on YouTube, then Geert's online work, and finally the fascinating exploits of Mark Harris and others on the Google+ site.  But I've mostly been using Workbench and relying heavily on the "official" online Eigenlab resources.  With occasional questions answered by the online community (thank you all). After scores (feels like hundreds) of hours, I have not gotten where I want to be.  I do not believe that much, if any, of ...

Problems creating MIDI CC buttons

Problems creating MIDI CC buttons I've been working for a long time on using Workbench to create a couple of customized Setups to allow using my Alpha the way I envision--but I've run into several problems. (Please don't say: go use Creator.  I'm very impressed with Creator, and all the work Mark Harris, António Machado  and others have been doing.  But the setups I want are complicated mods to the Factory setups, so it should be straightforward to create them....or not.  I just wish the clarity of Creator had been applied to the basic program....) One problem involves creating dedicated keys to send MIDI continuous controller (CC) messages.  These appear in the Factory Experimental Basic MIDI setup.  I can move them to different, more desirable, keys (see attached), and keep them working.  (I.e., I understand about removing MIDI controller keys from the general keygroups).  But when I try to add them into my own Setups, I can't get them to work... I've gone as ...

Remember that highly portable speaker/amp that Geert Bevin mentioned a couple of months ago?  The iLoud by IK Multimedia.   It's available new from Woot.com for $177, instead of the $299 that major retailers are charging....  Other iRig products also available at similar discounts.   If you aren't acquainted with them, Woot was a quirky little operation that specialized in close-out deals on high-tech equipment and components, but was fairly recently acquired by Amazon, so they are now a not so small quirky operation....  http://tech.woot.com/offers/iloud-2-way-portable-bluetooth-speaker-for-ios-devices http://tech.woot.com/offers/iloud-2-way-portable-bluetooth-speaker-for-ios-devices

Could someone in the know post an explanation of what the Channels and Filters really do, and how to use them correctly? I know they can be critical, but don't see when and where and how they actually matter....  for instance, if I have multiple KeyGroups linkable to the same  AudioUnit Rigs, should I be labeling each cable from the same KeyGroup with the same Channel Number?  Or use the same Channel Number for each cable going to a given AudioUnit Rig, i.e., same number from several KeyGroups?  And how far upstream / downstream does one need to apply the Channel number?  Not sure what the principle really is.... And the Filters?  I see reference to it being the opposite....  And I see it used for create "SuperMIDI" buttons that are carved out of the assigned field of KeyGroup notes and intended to send Roll, Yaw, or Pressure messages as separately assignable (MIDI? VST/AU Automation?) control messages....   I've found I can reprogram existing setups to move those key...

Just a note about using current version of Kontakt 5.

Just a note about using current version of Kontakt 5. I've used Kontakt for years, and have been using it with my Alpha since getting the Alpha.  (The SonicCoutureVST instruments are excellent, by the way...) After not doing so for a long time, I just downloaded the updates, to version 5.3.0.6464/ 3.1.0.4 . Very bad move.  This version completely crashes EigenD every time you close the GUI interface.  (Regardless of which of the three methods you use....)   After a day of assuming that it was my custom setups, I finally figured out that it crashes in the Factory setups also... Fortunately I had easy access to an earlier version (5.1.0.6066 / 3.0.014) that came on my Ultimate 9 disk, and rolling back to that immediately eliminated the problem in all  setups... I'll send a similar message to the NI folk, but unless it is affecting more than EigenD users they may not be rushing out a fix.... Hope this saves someone  else the pain!

Hi Mark Harris , I'm still having trouble getting some of the Creator .conf files to run...(some run fine!).  Conf/Basic/Alpha/basic6au1midi3splits stops for me at "hey octave to 3 set   false".  And Conf/Experimental/alpha/createmegaau.conf stops immediately at "sample rig 1 un create   false"  Given that I can get some  .conf files to run fine, is there perhaps something additional I need to do to run these? Thanks for your patience.   I think I've gone about as far as I can in taking apart the factory setups, and am looking forward to assembling some alternatives using the building blocks you and the others have made available. Much appreciated.

Two quick questions, please:

Two quick questions, please: When I can grab a few minutes, I've been trying to get a better handle on several of the tools many of you are using.  I understand how to use Creator with .conf files to (re)create setups.  Very cool--please keep on making these up.  I was under the impression that one used Creator.sh the same way with template files ( .bc) to add additional functionality to existing setups.  But clearly I am not getting syntax right.  I open terminal, drag in Creator.sh, type Alpha space, then drag in the *.bc template file, and hit enter.  I don't get an error message, but I also don't get any results.  (Yes, I have WB open.  And whatever I am doing wrong isn't affecting using Creator with *.conf files--those generally play out alright...) I'm sure whatever I'm missing is obvious.  (Maybe Mark Harris you could add sentence or two to your very useful introductory remarks on your Git Hub page to clarify how to invoke *.bc templates, for those of us ...

I was reading Mark Harris discussoin with Leslie Norton of the 12th, thought maybe the time was right to jump in with a report on my own attempts to run the basic configurations. But first to stress how specific the physical setup has to be.  I'm using last year's high-end MacBook Pro that I got for use with the Alpha (ordinarily I'm a PC person), and a high end RME audio interface.  To avoid potential software conflicts, the laptop basically it has only music programs on it (NI instruments,  Omnisphere, Trillian) but even so I've been very surprised how sensitive the setup is physical setup is.   Most USB cables --including the one that came with the instrument--don't work with it.  And the basestation has to plug directly into the laptop, with absolutely nothing else on that USB circuit--I've tried three hubs, and EigenD will eventually lock up with any of them, even if nothing else is plugged into the hub.   Before it locks up, the output is sometimes degrade...

Basic Creator questions for * Mark Harris

Basic Creator questions for * Mark Harris Doing an online workshop is a great idea! Now let me ask a couple of really elementary questions so when that happens maybe I can keep up... (You could just say you want to answer really elementary questions like this during the workshop--but I'll bet we'd get a lot further in our hour if you didn't need to explain the most basic ideas then!) Your YouTube video is clear and helpful, but of course you've moved far beyond that.  ( Eigenharp - modular setup builder ) One thing I don't understand is the relation between "creator.command" and "creator.sh"; and also the difference between "*.conf" (configuration) files and "*.bc" (template) files, in terms of how they are invoked/run. (It probably doesn't help that I am a PC person using a Mac for my Alpha adventures.) I figured out how to create a new configuration by double-clicking on "creator.command" to open the program in...

I've enjoyed visiting this Community off and on, so I feel I know some of you, but I've only just now joined Google+, so I can ask you'all questions! Lots of questions!  I bought my Alpha a year or so ago, just noodled around for about 6 months, and then started formal lessons, with the intent of becoming reasonably proficient at playing other people's (written) compositions.  And to discover how I wanted to change the Alpha's configuration to match my own style.  Now I'm trying to make those changes--and finding it quite frustrating...   feels a lot like chasing the pages from a loose-leaf instruction manual down the road on a windy day....and finding that many of them are written at least partly in a foreign language...  I originally played saxophone, have studied some keyboard and some guitar, but for years my primary instrument has been a Buchla Thunder, driving modeled electronic instruments with strange and wonderful timbres.  I only play for my own amusem...
