Good news!

Good news! Next week Voltage Modular 1.1 is going to be released - with support for "poly cables" that essentially combine several mono CV cables in one. So when using compatible poly modules it isn't necessary anymore to model each and every voice individually (with all the sync-fun if something is supposed to be changed later on). The base program is free, modules cost $$$ though... They also plan to provide a free "personal" license for their Designer which allows to write new modules per drag+drop+Java code. Looks promising! Second good news: It looks as if VCV will also get poly-cable support. Yay, good times for "polyphonic virtual modular" ahead! Am particularly looking forward to this because both VM and VCV support audio rate modulation - which should be fast enough to cope with the audio-rate-realm modulation rates of Eigenharps&Co. Some very interesting possibilities ahead... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hcX8cEr8zI

SOUL - SOUnd Language

SOUL - SOUnd Language Interesting stuff from JUCE/Roli, aimed at being OpenGL for Audio. early days, and lets face it most of us have seen these kind of claims before, but I try to be not too sceptic about new stuff :) https://youtu.be/-GhleKNaPdk?t=904 https://youtu.be/-GhleKNaPdk?t=904

Tracktion Engine open sourced

Tracktion Engine open sourced note: not the DAW (waveform) just the engine, which is built on Juce (unsurprising given both owned by Roli) What does it mean? Not sure, still processing potential , its a layer above just using Juce... so I guess potentially allows you to build your own daw/performance environment - with the kinds of things you expect in a modern daw. is that interesting? perhaps? of course, the question is, how much simpler it makes things, how flexible it is... but definitely worth a future dig around the source code... the flip side, is perhaps allows open source developers to potentially contribute to waveform (indirectly) by submitting pull requests. (not that we know if they are likely to accept them ?!) https://www.kvraudio.com/news/tracktion-daw-engine-now-open-source-43264

Hi everybody!

Hi everybody! I'm exploring the new adventure of having a Eigenharp Pico. It's so interesting! I hope I manage to make it work and experiment some music in it. I'm based in Spain but travel all around the world, I'm an engineer with some skills in music (not a musician at all). But I love to learn and it seems that I can travel with my pico, so it's a good hobby Thanks a lot to Mark Harris for the updates, instructions and posts that help the newcomers to overcome the problems we find. Cheers! Marisol

I'm all sorts of excited about the new Monome device.

I'm all sorts of excited about the new Monome device. It seems similar in some ways to the Organelle. I'll be watching this thread with a lot of interest over the next week! https://llllllll.co/t/approaching-norns/13236/126?u=gonecaving

Ok, made some progress with MEC on the Bela, though it’s still not working.

Ok, made some progress with MEC on the Bela, though it’s still not working. The key to get MEC to build was to flash a new Bela image. (In fact, the most recent image is from Tuesday.) So, now, the MEC project builds on my BeagleBone Black with Bela cape. Woohoo! After adapting the `mec.json` file, tried `~/projects/MEC/build/release/bin/mec-app`. Got the same “libusb … busy” error as on the Pi (even after following the directions in `RUNNING.md`). But, of course, there’s a normal Bela project in mec-bela. Tried the `ln` command, but the Bela didn’t accept a hard link. Tried a symbolic link (`ln -s`) and that made the project visible in the Web IDE. But running this project produces the following errors: ```` Build finishedIn file render.cpp: no member named 'MidiProcessor' in namespace 'mec'; did you mean 'Midi_Processor'? column: 24, line: 129In file render.cpp: use of undeclared identifier 'output_' column: 29, line: 127In file render.cpp: use of unde...

Hi all - the O ring has worn out on my Pico.

Hi all - the O ring has worn out on my Pico. Minimum order from the website is £19.60, but I only paid £100 for the instrument, so just wondering if anyone here has a couple spare for a tenner?

Open Source Modular Synthesizer. Four words that sound awesome in the same sentence :) Will have to play around with that... https://vcvrack.com/ https://vcvrack.com/

We occasionally talked about ROLI, here.

We occasionally talked about ROLI, here. Two announcements today which are fairly relevant for us, as MPE players. One is that they came out with an improved version of the Lightpad Block. The other, which makes me rather glad, is that even the original version comes with the Tracktion Waveform DAW (as well as Ableton Live Lite and Strobe2 Player, upgradable to full for £64). Unlike Ableton Live, Waveform supports MPE directly. It’s also among very few DAWs to be available on Raspberry Pi (running on Ubuntu MATE). Has anyone here tried Waveform? There are some Seaboard users here who already had access to it, so that’d make sense. (Funny to me is the fact that Waveform itself comes bundled with Celemony Melodyne Essential.) Will install all of that good stuff and try it with my Pico. My experience with the (full) Equator synth has been quite positive. Works better with the Pico than with the Lightpad, IMHO. Wonder how Strobe2 will be (the player version might be quite limited but it sh...

macOS High Sierra 10.13 - EigenD.

macOS High Sierra 10.13 - EigenD. anyone tried to run EigenD on 10.13? Geert Bevin? BTW: this is NOT a suggestion to try, I have not upgraded any machines yet, so have no idea. any issues with other (music) software? I guess, I'll upgrade my MBP or iMac for testing/fixing, but which, really depends on how many applications/drivers are likely to have issues... this also might drive the timing a little bit, e.g. I might wait for 10.13.1

Expressive Organelle ft. Pico

Expressive Organelle ft. Pico some of you saw me demo this at 3e, but here it is for others... my dream of a fully portable solution for the pico, running off a small usb battery, that can last all day :) I show two uses, first is using my own Pure Data patch on the Organelle (comms via OSC), second is using an Axoloti (comms MIDI MPE over usb) with audio coming back into the Organelle (running a granular patch) don't worry, its not just about Organelle and picos. - works for all Eigenharps, - also runs on a rPI3 (best to have an audio interface, Id recommend the PiSound by Blokas.io, very cool) p.s.since 3e, I fixed some things, so its now much better to play! no hanging notes, much improved PB control. EDIT: Important Note. Ive just tested Organelle with the Alpha, Tau, (and Soundplane) and its not working. appears to be a USB bandwidth issue, specific to the Organelle. (BBB/rPI when tested previously worked fine.) https://youtu.be/xX7WNbCSMx https://youtu.be/xX7WNbCSMx4

Pianoteq v6 released - 29 euro upgrade.

Pianoteq v6 released - 29 euro upgrade. used by many of us ... cant wait to dig in this evening :) features: improved engine, authorised by steinway model D & B (!), refined tuning. and my favourite.... ARM support, so you can now run on (e.g.) a Raspberry PI3, all I can think is wow, a great pocket piano! can't wait to try this, with my pico/pi setup ... and the organelle too :) https://www.pianoteq.com/pianoteq6 https://www.pianoteq.com/pianoteq6

Just saw this on synthtopia.

Just saw this on synthtopia. Admittedly I haven't looked properly on what the module actually does yet. Apparently, eurorack and MPE in the same sentence is enough for me to get excited. :) http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2017/08/24/percussa-super-signal-processor-eurorack-module-adds-mpe-support/

Finally ordered a Bela kit.

Finally ordered a Bela kit. Curious how that’ll go. Don’t want to nag Mark Harris even more, but it’ll be neat to have some parts of his setup. (Hoping the Pico works well with Bela.) One thing about the Bela cape is that its latency really is very low. After trying Sonic Pi 3 on a Raspberry Pi 3, been noticing significant latency. Still waiting for my Blokas pisound HAT which may help, to a certain extent. But the stated latency for the Bela is much lower than even the pisound. Maybe it’s just #GearAcquisitionSyndrome hitting me again. But there are worse things to buy than a Single-Board Computer and cape in terms of bulk and even expense.

Some good news on my end: got a new job.

Some good news on my end: got a new job. Which means less time for me to flood y’all, you’ll be relieved to know. But it also means that my means are increasing a bit. It can allow me to expand my setup a bit. One avenue is to make my Pico-based setup as small, portable, and untethered as possible. The Bela cape for BeagleBone Black sounds pretty sweet and Mark Harris has been made a special part of MEC for it. Mark, do you have a demo somewhere of how it works with the Pico? The other avenue would be to get a portable, wireless controller. ROLI’s Seaboard Block is rather attractive, in this case, particularly because of its integration with iOS. Would still spend most quality time with my Pico, but an expressive controller for my iPad softsynths would probably be very cool. Thoughts on these options?
Has there ever been an idea to use USB-C in a future instrument? Couldn’t it help get a massive throughput?

Hey all!

Hey all! Anyone using mec-app with a Pico on a Raspberry Pi 3? If so, how usable is it, overall? Getting very close to buying my first Eigenharp. RasPi support would go a long way to help me “bite the bullet”. Been using Sonic Pi and Pure Data on Raspbian so my efforts on the platform have other parts. Being able to connect a Pico to a Raspberry Pi and then send MIDI or OSC to other devices would greatly help. Thanks!
